What's up NT fam. I wanted to make a thread where people could share info about sleep since it's one of the things most essential to our existence. I've been considering questions like the ones below. I figure the exchange could help some of our members. No, this isn't for a school assignment.

How many hours of sleep do you gets get each night?
What time do you all typically wake up?
Do you have problems falling asleep at times? Do you have any tips for overcoming those?
Do you have problems staying asleep?

I'd say on average 6-6.5 hours for me. I would love 8, and probably will start adjusting my schedule when I start my new job at the end of the month.

I usually wake up 6/630AM to be in by 8. Right now I work close to home, so my routine includes a shower (if I didn't the night before), breakfast, internet a bit, etc. Again, that will change when I have a commute added to my workday in a few weeks, but I've been following this for the past few months.

I can fall asleep anywhere  so that's never an issue. I think it's due to a family situation I've had to go through the past few years and where my mind/body was just so tired to it all, that any chance to shut my eyes I took advantage of.

No real problems staying asleep through the night. The occasional mid-wakeup, but I fall right back asleep til my alarm.

If I'm working out a lot during the week I try to get 8-10 hrs of sleep

I wake up between 4-6 am.

It's rare I have trouble falling asleep.

If I do I'll do push ups till I can (yeah I'll be pumped up but I'll be clear headed) then try again.

Govan hour without using your cellphone before bed.

Me and my girl usually start doing the nasty at 10 or 11PM what time i fall alseep I have no idea I get up at 5AM on workdays

I've been pinging awake at 5am regularly recently - I can't get back to sleep although I feel really tired. Can't seem to find a solution to it. I fall asleep again about 7:30 but that's no use except on a Saturday.

Sometimes ill slack have a mini-staycation but I usually aim for 7-8 every night.

If u wake up then fall asleep again for more than an hour you will feel tired.

Theres a scientific explanation but i forget it.

Melatonin works if u cant sleep.

Also something on "power naps" during the day. If u feel sleepy i read somewhere that if u lay down or sit or whatever.....hold a cup or your keys...when u doze off and they fall....thats all u need to get energy.

It's not alot at all but i thought about it and the times that happened unintentionally to me....it worked.

I have a bad habit of tossing and turning, getting up out've bed and walking around and then laying back down.

It's the worst

I sleep walk.

Sometimes i wake up in cold sweats.

Used to take ambien to fall asleep and stay asleep....but had to flush em down the toilet cuz i woild wake up groggy........and i would get out of bed and do things without even knowing it. I would drive while 'asleep' and walk around the house.

Been prescribed sleeping medications since 19 years old, I'm 22 now. I sleep about 9-10 hours a day.

Always been a horrible sleeper, even as a baby, but it never really had any serious side effects until a few years ago. Always had to get up at 6AM for school and it would always take me at least 4-5 hours to fall asleep so I always felt like a zombie in the morning. Eventually it got so bad I couldn't focus in class and started getting gaps in my memory. Had a bicycle incident where I was cycling to school and the next thing I know I'm in a ditch with my bike. And I couldn't really remember how I got there.

Tried all sorts of natural sleep aids like melatonin, ... but nothing worked so eventually I was prescribed Ambien and all those problems went away.

Took a while to find the right sleeping meds that worked best with the least side effects but I sleep great now.

I'm currently prescribed 2 tabs of Zopiclone 7,5mg and 30mg of Mirtazapine for daily use to sleep in. No side effects aside from a bitter metallic taste in the morning from the Zopiclone. Goes away immediately when you eat something though so it's not a real issue to me.

Sleep is very important. If you have trouble falling asleep and feel tired in the morning, try looking into natural sleep aids.

Melatonin is a naturally occuring hormone that tells your body it's "time to sleep". Taking it as a supplement is 100% harmless and should work for most people with minor sleep issues.

Actual sleep medication is a last resort option. I would only recommend it if you've tried just about every natural sleep aid and suffer from severe sleep deprivation effects during the day.

How is it to sleep walk?

I was on mirtazapine as well, started at 15 mg then 30 and finally 45 mg. I could literally sleep 12 hours on that thing. If you ever try to get off it make sure to taper off. It took months for me to sleep without it. Still having issues right now but it beats feeling like a zombie

Back when I was prescribed Ambien I apparently sleep walked occasionally. I have zero memory of doing so, my mom always told me in the morning.

Accordin to her I didn't do much, I'd just come downstairs and watch tv or walk around the living room and kitchen before going back to bed.

Between 0-6 hours of sleep a night.
Wake up by 6:30am.
Have problems with falling asleep and usually won't even bother trying until I'm exhausted.
No problems once I'm actually asleep - I've slept through tornadoes and earthquakes.

Great thread as we can all use any tips we can get. Proper sleep is no joke and nearly everything you do and accomplish each day is based on sleep.

I'm up at 4:30 every day. Usually get in 7.5 - 8.5 hours a night.

I've tinkered with a few things to help get better sleep and I think I'm finally at a good routine. For me it's all about prep work, which very few younger generation (including me) take the time to do.

How's your appetite on the mirtazapine? I gained 20 lbs because of what it did to my appetite. I was always hungry

Weeknights, about 7 or so. Sleep at 11PM or so, wake up at 6AM.
Weekends, on usual I'll sleep around 10PM if I don't go out, sleep in til 9 or 10AM.

What time do you all typically wake up?
6AM for weekdays, 10AM-11AM on weekends.

Do you have problems falling asleep at times? Do you have any tips for overcoming those?
I did before. I got a Tempur Pedic bed and honestly I fall asleep within 10 minutes of laying in that damn thing every time. I've had it for years and it has gotten me a LOT of good nights sleeping.
I recommend getting a bed that is best suited for your preferences, and sleep cool but not cold. I also prefer some white noise, so I have an electric fan on low all through the year in my room at night.

Do you have problems staying asleep?
Nope. Other than the occasional 1AM-3AM wake up to get a swig of juice from the fridge, then go right back to bed and pass out. I sleep through the night no issues.

I think out of an entire year, there may be 1 or 2 nights that I actually have difficulty falling asleep and staying asleep.

I'm not perfect though, my girlfriend has told me that I used to grind my teeth pretty bad in my sleep, and I often babble random words and phrases while I sleep.
She used to think she could crack into my head by asking me questions while I sleep, but apparently I just tell her stupid answers like "the number is 0. THE NUMBER IS 0!" so she gave up.

Averaging around 6 to 6 1/2.

Alarm goes off at 6:15AM. But I end up hitting snooze till 7AM sometimes

Only when I stress myself out or if I'm upset. Only tip to overcome those is to not worry about whatever you're stressing about and let the anger go.
Do you have problems staying asleep?
I think I currently do because my pillows aren't as thick as I'd like and because my daughter always leans on me in bed.

Note to soon to be parents: Don't let your kids sleep in the same bed as you.

How is it to sleep walk?

I used to do it as a kid....I would walk toward my parents TV that ran all night in thier room....or I would do daily task like take out the trash.
Used to freak my parents out big time.
Pops said he would yell at me to get my lil narrow *** back in the bed and I would run back to my bed still sleep.

Somehow forgot to mention that as a side effect. It makes me quite hungry in the late evening. I've been prescribed it for about a year now so it's not that bad now but especially in the first few weeks I had an almost uncontrollable urge to raid the fridge in the late evening.

I'm a bit chubby now but that might have more to do with my very limited mobility. I have a chronic illness that severely impairs my ability to do physical activity. It does work very well to sleep, and I don't feel groggy at all in the morning when I wake up.
