I've had the idea of owning and running a night spot for about 10yrs. I'm seeing multiple opportunities of obtaining my own spot and considering jumping in. I've had one foot in on promoting, booking and management for about 13yrs. I've real hands on un the past couple years at my uncle's hall. Although we're only open when people rent out the space we still do 2 or 3 events a weekend, sometimes overlapping (we have separate spaces on 2 floors. I taught myself how to dj and bartend and I'm real good with the #'s - my day job is in the financial industry.

Any of my NT fam run or have an owners interest in a bar/booty club/lounge? Are you enjoying it?

Not in the business, but I know people who are. Failure rate is high.

Think about starting small, then expand if the returns are good. Too many folks get in over their heads and the ship sinks not before long.

Word of advise. Just do it, my dude !!

With a decade plus experience in promoting, which I think is super essential, having a relative in the business and your finance background, I think you are equipped with everything you need (Not to mention your ability to multi task and take on different facet of the business (bartending/DJ).

The more you wait, the more someone is going to throw statistic at you, telling you how many people fail/failed and what not. Obviously, that is in good faith and due diligence can never be overstated. But, you have what is needed. You know what works and what doesn't. I would suggest maybe taking the managers or owners of the local clubs you admire out and ask them questions, join local club small business groups... Etc etc.

Appreciate it. Yea the city im in already running or connected to those circles, I talk with them often.

I was thinking of starting relatively small, something less than 125 capacity. I wont rule out buying in as an option too.

Same, essentially too many things out of your hands that can contribute to your failure. It's as if authority doesn't really want you to exist.

I know guys that retired doing that lol

Crazy you say that, the spot im looking into getting is an imfamous strip club in the city, the former owners family is selling the all licenses as well and the city is not giving out anymore strip club licenses. Price is high but lets hope ican negotiatie to something reasonable.

If you are ready and willing to hire people out it doesn't seem like a bad idea, but at the same time it seems like you want to do everything yourself.

Bar,dj, numbers, mgmt. ,promo, etc . Gotta be willing to hire people for those jobs or it will fail.

I've been around it so long that I know how to do everything. I've got a nice network of people I can reach out to hire, mostly family.

As long as you hire out you are good. Can't do everything yourself and run a successful business .
