La La Land (2016) starring Ryan Gosling & Emma Stone

After experiencing the ups and downs of Love, Career is all that matters.

There's plenty of variables involved with both. But depending on the career, you won't be set on nearly permanent rails like a relationship tends to do.

An approximate amount of 100 billion humans have been born on Earth. You think no one had died wishing their Legacy was different in terms of Profession?

Movie was buns.

Saw it in imax last night and was expecting to be blown away. Definitely wasn't.

I'm a huge gosling fan too but I think the hype and rave reviews lead to a major letdown for me :smh::smh:

This was a good film, but it was also definitely an art school flick made to win awards.

I think it may have been slightly better if things hadn't worked out for Gosling.

overrated. it was a regular/basic chick flick story with the expected useless fight that could have been handled better if people had logic, with music added to it. the dancing was pretty bad. the end montage upped it by a couple of points late in the game though. i'll give em that.

Can't have both?

Probably love -- no one lies on their deathbed wishing they had a better career
If the other person really loves you, then they would support your dreams. Your other half should not hold you back, word to Gosling driving to Nevada to get Stone to come to that rehearsal that would shape her future.

You don't want to be on your death bed looking back and wonder "what if". This hit home when I saw folks dying at the hospital I worked at.

I really enjoyed the movie. Going back to see it again for sure. The ending couldn't have been any better.

I really find it interesting since I live in LA, and something crazy like over 100k people move in/out a year trying to make it. I've met baristas and waiters/waitresses who moved from the mid-west and east coast trying to break into the industry. A lot don't make it, but it takes guts to actually pursue your dream instead of settling to become an ordinary accountant or whatever white collar job.

Watched it with my girlfriend and I enjoyed the hell out of it. The ending had my feels all over the place. At times, the movie makes you wonder if you should choose love over all, but I always come back to my senses and I'm taking career and dreams over any and everything. I don't give a damn if I had the perfect wifey material, thick *** bit chest loyal woman, if I had to choose I'm taking my personal goals.

Heard way too many stories about the "perfect" woman upping and leaving cause their emotions are playing with them. We all have one life to live and one life to accomplish our goals. no woman or person is worth giving up your goals for.

Really enjoyed this movie.

Is there a way to find out when they filmed at specific locations, because I remember visiting Griffith Observatory in 2016 and one half of the hill/mountain to get up there was blocked off due to filming, along with WB Studios.

Literally a day after I posted this, my girl broke up with me. I knew I was right lol

^ True, I'm revisiting that question of love or career and would most likely choose career.

That ending was very depressing though. You can see the regret/pain in both Seb/Mia's eyes, but notice how regretful Seb looks at first and then he smiles.

Do y'all think he's still hurt about the whole relationship? It seemed to me that his smile wasn't genuine and was more of a goodbye smile.

I viewed it as him getting closure and letting go. He was obviously still in love with her, and like he said, he always be, but he knows his time has passed. The smile was getting that closure and being able to finally move forward with his life. Imo.

Crazy how they closed down the freeway for two days to film that opening scene.

Yeah, that's what I thought too.

Bummer that they didn't end up together, but happy they were both able to achieve their dream.

14 nominations :wow:

I still don't think stone or Gosling should be nominated for acting awards. I feel like they shoulda danced and sung a lot more to get noms.

This movie made me want to shoot up Emma Bae's club more than I already wanted to before.

That voice, those facial expressions, those eyes -- just imagine her telling you to coat her sugar walls
