I'm not a Trump supporter.

The main issue here is the fact that the media is portraying Meryl Streep as some profound speaker. Anyway, this speech is going viral and there are plenty of people who are going to attach the xenophobic generalization to anyone who supports Trump, not that this hasn't been done already. You see the issue here? This will not end well for your average Trump supporter. These celebrities, who live in their own utopia of Hollywood, are spewing their thoughts that are based off of no knowledge or insight. She mentioned how Trump is going to deport LEGAL immigrants..

“Hollywood is crawling with outsiders and foreigners. And if we kick them all out, you’ll have nothing to watch but football and Mixed Martial Arts, which are not the arts,” she said.
First off, the NFL and MMA have more diversity than Meryl's films with a mostly white cast catered toward housewives. Second, MMA is an art and the two most prominent figures are an irishman and a woman..

I'm upset that it was broadcast to so many people who will automatically believe she was right. Millions of people watch the broadcast usually, and it's going to renew the attacks against Trump's followers for that. That is the issue with her speech, and the platform at award ceremonies like this.

Also her speech wasn't about diversity. It was about ppl of all walks of life coming together/doing the same profession. Contrasting that with Donald's instigation of hatred, mocking ppl who are different whether they be immigrants or handicapped.

People liked her speech. She's a lauded actor, no surprise if she's a profound speaker. So what if this giant good for Supporters of Donald Trump. He's already won and looked bad doing it. This ain't changing much either way.

It's not really big news but I guess you should expect more of it.

Free speech is free speech, and this includes actors and actresses. It has nothing to do with Hollywood, as there are and will continue to be the same sorts of things said by "regular" people, too.

You don't like what she said? Change the channel or don't watch the YouTube video. Luckily for you and your ilk, Meryl Streep's opinion on things won't affect laws for years to come. And if you're REALLY concerned about who says what and who it will affect, look no further than your boy Trump. But I don't expect you to do that since you've proven yourself to be cut from the same cloth as Donny in numerous threads.

And as far as Meryl being a profound speaker, she undoubtedly is more coherent and capable of getting her point across intelligently than the President Elect. Maybe she should be President.
