Are Smart Watches worth it?

Thanks for the input. You guys got me excited to get into this wearable tech wave. I'ma still stick with the $20 joint. Don't want to spend $100+ on something that might be collecting dust after a week.

The one I found takes calls, I can see texts, play music, and count steps. Not bad for $20 I think.

I know they've been out for a while and I never really paid attention they seemed to expensive and just for techies. Then the other day I saw a friend of mine use his and it seemed pretty cool. It was playing music, he was talking on it, reading texts. So I went online and bought one. Some $20 off Amazon to test it out. Now I've never really been on the technology cutting edge. I've never owned a laptop and I bought a tablet a few years back and it's collecting dust. I pretty much live off my phone.

Mine hasn't come yet. But for those that have one, what was your main reason to get one? Does it adequately serve that purpose? Do you find it convenient?

Just adding my 2 cents - I got a Nixon Mission when it released and I love it. Probably a bit more advanced than what you have coming, but it was worth the price I paid for it.

Also got my girl a TicWatch 2 for Christmas and she really likes that. It doesn't even work 100% with her iphone, but if she had an android phone it'd be fantastic.

Let us know how your $20 guy works out. If it does everything you hope it will, it's quite a deal!

I looked at the mission.... Almost pulled the trigger ( I live in Hawaii after all), but the lack of a speaker, and the fact that you have to physically close the mic port killed it for me. I killed a Breitling, by not closing the crown all the way after changing time once. Ended up getting the gear s3 frontier, lte version. I live the Samsung pay, and the fact that it can go onto any credit card reader.

Yeah, I'm going to have to remember to close that mic port when I go to the ocean this summer. I DO NOT want to fry this thing. And I don't mind the lack of a speaker. Bluetooth solves that problem whether I'm in my car or walking.

If all you want it for is fitness, I'd go with the much cheaper fitbit. But if you want all the bells & whistles, too, I'd say go with the Apple watch. As I mentioned a few weeks ago, the TicWatch could be a good middle ground, too. You might want to check that out, especially if you have an android phone. It's currently a bit limited in capability w/ iphone, tho.
