how much of this do you believe?

The lady in the story is an author and i can't help but feel like the story is heavily fabricated

for the book.  Or that she used youtube to build the house but didn't take the opportunity to document the process in the same way

Amazon review of her book --
Kudos to Brookins for getting out of an abusive situation and building a new home for herself and her four kids. Beyond that, I can't say too many good things about the book itself.
For starters, I don't think the author was honest in writing RISE. Supposedly .."assisted only by her kids and youtube videos," she built a brand new home without help from anyone else. That just wasn't the case. Brookins had plenty of other help. It would've been nice to have seen more honesty in that regard.

The book is just too much of a cliché for me I guess. How many times have we heard, "When you fall off a horse, you get back on." Boring.

Salty language is also a problem, at least for me in the book. Brookins almost takes delight in talking that way which is hard to understand. She also points out that "First grade..taught me to hate." That's a stretch to be sure but I guess you have to take her word for it. The author's polar-opposite parents were a huge source of her tortured childhood, and one wonders if she's ever gotten over it.

Failed marriages, a serious injury to her brother, abusive relationships, and finally the death of her mother at 59 would take a toll on anybody.

I just didn't find the book inspiring or even a good read. Others may find the opposite to be true.

Bruh forget the ducktales story about building the house I'm not even buying this news channel is legit.

Reporter is reading off a notepad in to the camera. Whole thing is bogus.

Codes, permits, and laws are no joke. She better use that book money to lawyer up.

Laws stipulate that you pretty much have to go through a licensed contractor for many areas regarding home building.

I redid my entire kitchen from scratch watching YouTube

With patience I'm a firm believer this is possible, you can find the answer to anything on Google/YouTube.

This is true, but if you about that life, you say "screw that!"

All this does is give contractors the right to rape your pockets, since I live in a coop while doing my kitchen I had to hire a plumber to disconnect my **** stove, my valve was old as hell and didn't want to risk snapping it, I ended up paying a plumber 600$ to come and disconnect that *** and replace a valve, took him 20 minutes and all I could do was bend over and take it.

Steezy, you talking reckless.

You say "screw that", the country says "run just these fines" and "your house is condemned"

I'm going off the deep end, of course you wanna keep safe with the obvious things, I wouldn't mess around with digging, piping and electrical, that's where you just have to take the rape prices tags these contractors charge, you are basically paying for their liscence....but things like putting down your floor, redoing a kitchen, installing lights, knocking down walls inside your home, he'll even building an extra bathroom, if you do it carefully, how is the state gonna find out? They never gonna send someone inside your home to inspect...lol

you can follow a tutorial to the letter and still have things go wrong

she couldn't afford to buy a house, but she got a loan, bought land, bought/rented materials and tools and didn't work for 9 months to build not just any house but a giant 2 story home with 4 kids including 1 being preteen and 1 being a toddler at the time... nope not buying it

i don't doubt that she worked on the house, but this all sounds like a well crafted farce she had planned to sell her next book
