What Happened To The Nike Air Remastered Campaign?

As most know, JB introduced the remastered program in 2015. They improved many retros materials, and raised the price to $190. From Holiday 2015 to Holiday 2016, jb dished out they're upgraded remastered program bringing back air Jordans 3-6 with og materials AND the Nike Air with another period increase of $30. NA retros released seemingly once every quarter.

What happened? There have been no NA releases that have been confirmed or even hinted at by JB. Black cement 3 rumor is one that's been around since the 88 white cement release, and the Bred 4 was a mix up. Will they continue? Will consumers ever be able to get the 13 other remastered Nike Air retros? I know everyone drools over the remastered 1s but the 3-6 releases have been amazing for the most part, especially in regard to availability. Thoughts please.

It is super weird that no NA retros have been rumored this year. This time last year the black metallic 5's and white cement 4's were confirmed. I hope they didn't abandon any plans they had to release the other 13. It wouldn't make any sense to just stop.

I really WISH I knew what happened to it. They went from a so-so reception on the pretty good quality of the Maroon VIs, to all-around home runs on the WC IVs and BM Vs, to somewhat of a dip in quality and reception on the TB IIIs, to no NA OGs on the schedule at all.

I really HOPE the whole OG remastered initiative wasn't just a temporary gimmick to give their business a shot in the arm for a season or two. I think customers have proven by and large that 1) if something is truly a quality product, we're willing to pay a premium for things that we don't have to jump through 28 hoops to get (such as unnecessarily limited Retros that we have to compete and haggle with resellers on), and 2) that NOSTALGIA is a VERY powerful, if not always quantifiable, concept which companies can ride all the way to the bank if they capitalize on it in just the right way. Both of these details helped the OG remaster program be, from all outward accounts, a success. Success doesn't always mean "instant sell through," especially not with the numbers they produced on the NA models. It's also things like customer satisfaction with the experience, attention generated by the campaign, increased product availability, etc.

But then I look at some of the rest of JB's current product lines that are trickling out to stores for the spring, i.e. the latest Jumpman Pro Retro with its garbage quality construction, and it makes me think that JB is going to go back to bad habits and worse materials, but continue to jack up their prices. Look at the XVI and XVII Retros - negligible quality compared to the IV and V OG Retros but they're not batting an eye about charging $250 a pair. That's basically $275 in CA with our tax rates.

So we're just about on the threshold of $300 a pair for certain styles of basketball shoes where the quality STILL doesn't quite measure up to what it was when the exact SAME model shoes were half that price. It doesn't exactly leave me optimistic for what the true hardcore fans can expect in the near future from JB. I'm sure JB will still do good business. But that nostalgic, kind of magical feeling many of us had a year ago in regard to the OG initiative and JB's so-called "new direction" seems to be stuck in neutral for now. It would be a damn shame if the whole thing was a stunt just to get us used to higher prices only for them to go back to sticking us with terrible materials.

I don't see any reason to lock this thread, if it stays under control. Good topic.
JB will definitely drop some NA retros this year IMO. The demand is there and people are willing to pay the inflated prices. They'd be stupid not too.

Been wondering this for months now..no confirmed NA model yet. Just glad we got cement 4s if anything...not a fan anymore of suede and nubuck so I sold my bm5s

I'm not sure the NA and remastered stuff is synonymous. We also have been getting Nike branding on less visible parts of shoes like the insoles for the space jams.

Its a gimmick guaranteed to work lol. People love the Nike Air.
Agree, but here is what may be the problem.  Since the early 2000s they took the Nike Air branding from certain retro models in place of the jumpman.  By design or not, many young consumers that like jordans are used to that.  The jumpman I mean.  Unless your a shoe head or an old head air Jordan fan, the nike air branding may not mean much to the rest of the shoe buyers out there.  JB did what they set out to do beginning since the late 90s.  Put the Nike logo to the side and make the Jumpman more relevant.  I hope I am wrong, but maybe they realize they are gonna sell out certain retros no matter what branding they decide to use.

Im hoping they release BC IV's.. after finally getting WC's, it doesn't feel right not having the BC IV's. JB knows very well that folks go gaga over the black based NA retros.. they've gotta be coming eventually.

BC IV's

Infared VI's

BC III's

At minimum, these are necessary!

Are this years 13's considered remastered?
Hard to tell.. those never said NA if that's the way to determine.. other than that, we need to see official pics of OG color ways and see if materials and colors are on point.. it does look like theyre getting OG boxes though and that's a good sign.

I'm speaking on the $220 retro with Nike on the heel.

The brand toys with the loyal buyers by tweeking retros just enough for us to say I want that, Again.  Nike Air is their ultimate go to when all else fails.  It wouldn't surprise me if they come out with some dumb statement about putting Nike Air in the vault.

Of course, if nothing else, JB will keep dropping OG 1s.

I think in a way it is and in a way it isn't, although depending on how far you dig into it this can become a convoluted talking point.

I was under the impression that "remastered" applied to any and all Jordan Retros across the board ever since that campaign was announced. Alongside that, they announced the "Retro OG" (a.k.a. Nike Air) designation for forthcoming Retros of original Jordan Nike Air styles. Technically the Is have had this designation (and price hike) for a while. So I guess technically there's a slight difference in terminology, but they're all Retros so in theory they should all fall under being "remastered."

If you want to get REALLY technical, if memory serves I believe insole NA branding was done through the original XIs. So the "Retro OG" title *could* apply to any of those Retros also, however, recent "remastered" Retros like the Aqua VIIIs, white/black IXs, and 2016 Space Jams don't carry the "Retro OG" label, regardless of whatever their insole branding happens to be.

I guess in the end, only the JB design, production, and executive teams know the definitive parameters of these designations for sure.
