Couldn't find a SZA thread. I am highly anticipating this.

With her debut album, CTRL, out Feb. 3, the 26-year-old R&B singer breaks down the experiences that shaped her music.

Sleepaway Camp
“I [wrote about] my younger life, which was haphazard: being at sleepaway camp away from my parents, being the only black girl, not even noticing until I got older, dealing with boys, self-hate, growth and God. It’s the first time I’m literally writing about my life instead of figuratively writing about it.”

Listening To Her Own Voice
“One time I met my boyfriend’s boss and he said, ‘Let’s see what this music is about.’ I don’t listen to my music on my own, and when I pressed Play, my voice was so quiet! There were no emotional moments. It felt boring. I was like, ‘OK, I need to exercise in letting go.’”

Recording “Consideration” For Rihanna’s Anti
”She wanted to work with me, and I played some jams that I was working on for myself, and it went from there. Rihanna doesn’t give a f--- about anyone around her. She’s in her own space at all times. But she’s not rude -- she’s comfortable. As a shy person, that was something cool to witness.”

Getting Notes From Rick Rubin
“I had this mentality that ‘more is more’ -- more reverb, more background [vocals]. I played him a bunch of songs, and he would tell me, ‘The more you take away from any piece, the more room you create for everything else to be beautiful and grow.’ I never felt that before, the editing urge. Once you strip everything down, you’re forced to say something.”

did they announce the release date for her album yet? seems like she's still not on the best of terms with Top Dawg/TDE. album was supposed to drop in Feb then got postponed for 3 months. that type of thing doesnt usually happen in the TDE camp. they usually stick to the quick rollout method.

TDE probably can't find a single to push, so they forced Travis $cott to get on this to gain some exposure. SZA still is underground with a strong cult following.

I thought she would have all eyes on her after her being on the intro to Rih-Rih's album "Anti".

Wasn't expecting this thread on here :nerd:
Been hearing about her for awhile besides thinking she was sexy I just skimmed a couple of songs, never really gave her tapes full spins. Been listening to ctrl, smooth :pimp:

I think this is a great album, it doesn't have that generic sound that everyone does today. Drake, Bryson Tiller, PND and them all have the same sound and the **** is trash. I love that she has a great voice which is rare for R&B somehow today. Now the only problem is as a man, some of this content just ain't for me. She talking about not shaving her legs and earthly feelings. I'll play it a few more times because it's good but I don't see me playing it a lot because of the content on some songs.

Bro all she said was she not the type of girl to shave her legs everyday  in comparison to these models we thirst after she calling herself a normal girl

But yeah I'm with everybody on that "The Weekend" song :smokin that's a dope song

I don't mind the lyrical content, personally. I know she's speaking from a females POV, but I'm just feelin the energy of the album. Refreshing to hear an artist pour so much vulnerability into her content.
