Are the 1999 metallic 5s durabuck or nubuck? Can't find this info anywhere on the interet and would greatly appreciate some help

Synthetic nubuck. A lot of people refer to it as Durabuck, but it's not. Durabuck was awful tbh. It ages very poorly and develops a shiny chalkiness over time. Compare some pics of OG Vs to 99s, 06s & 16s.

 yeah yeah. I'm so used to people calling them 99s because of the production date on the tag, I even do it myself now.

They are in fact durabuck but not the original stuff jb used. In the late 90s, jb no longer used that durabuck since it stopped being produced. Even the og durabuck on the 89 4s is synthetic (Durabuck itself is synthetic leather no matter how you spin it). Then jb created their own durabuck variation that they have used since 1999 which i call nikebuck.

Durabuck was patented, but it's synthentic more durable nubuck anyway. You can pretty much still call it durabuck.

Nike has been making their own version since the late 90's.

The issue with Nike/JB is that they vary things so greatly in the texture they use.

The same happens with 3M, Nike makes their own version. We still call it 3M.
