so what exactly happened to Jeff Gordon ?

growing up son was absolutely huge, from 97-00 , not very knowledgeable on the sport so I assumed he stopped being dominant. Dale Earnhardt Jr seemed to be that guy in the 2000's after his pops dale passed away . And if the little knowledge I have on NASCAR is correct then this Jimmy Johnson cat is light years better than both of these guys? Why he never hit That mainstream fame of the other two ?

Gordon was pretty good he just wasn't well liked by fans imo. He won cup series 4 times. I know Dale Jr. is more popular than both Gordon, and Johnson even though they have been more successful than him on the track. Johnson has been dominant winning 7 cup series championships. So it just depends on who is the most popular with the fans.
