nas then came back with a record that was straight to the point f_ you bars that immediately resonated with the streets over a beat that commanded attention

now people try to rewrite history and say takeover was better and say the ether beat is corny but never mind the fact that nobody rhymes over that dry takeover beat

jays second cut on the blueprint 2 was better than takeover but it was too late

it was already on stone that nas washed him

also to this day jay rarely ever mentions someone's name on record out of fear he'll get ether'd again

Ether resonated in 2001 but it was actually a weak diss lyrically - the name "Ether" and the beat hold to this day but no one is quoting Nas' lyrics from the song

FOH there's a reason she chose Ether and named it the way she did.

That song means you're using it and know what the intention is... a one a done straight Tyson in his prime haymaker.

It's one thing when you little Internet dorks downplay it but you know what the real is... when your peers and other well respected rappers knows it's the best and the benchmark used to judge other diss tracks.

When the N it was aimed towards acknowledges it as so too and seceded to the defeat. Goes on the radio in dismay and had to have his momma step in and use it as a cop out to bow out.

When the **** is so hard the N that made it doesn't have to speak on it, it speaks for itself. Just like a N flapping his gums how tough he is...if you really bout it your rep should speak for itself and others that are chatty pattys builds your legend. Does Gucci go around bragging how tough he is, NO, but everyone knows and won't hesitate to tell you. That's that there RESPECT!

That's what Ether is and is respected by those who matter.

I believe it was Nas that acknowledged respect is the ultimate currency "props is a true thugs wife".

My boy says the dame diddy dame daddy line a bunch too for no reason but he's always saying random rap lyrics as long as I've known him
