ADIDAS X YEEZY COLLAB OFFICIAL 2017 THREAD *NO LC's PLEASE*

Kanye only has impact on what sneaker heads buy, not what normal people buy. Adidas grew like crazy in 2016 but for all the credit people want to give kanye for how big adidas and boost got, not one single boost model cracked the top 10 shoes sold in 2016. Adidas was number one with the superstar and it was the only adidas shoe on the top 10 list, and its boostless.

Industry analyst Matt Powell has just weighed in with 2016’s 10 best selling sneaker styles in the United States.

2016 top 10 US shoes, $$ rank: SUPERSTAR, JORDAN XII, Chuck LOW, ROSHE , HUARACHE, REVOLUTION, FREE RN, JORDAN XI, AIR FORCE 1 LOW, KYRIE 2 https://t.co/Obgr2Sih8l

— Matt Powell (@NPDMattPowell) April 3, 2017

According to stats from market research group NPD
, the adidas Superstar ranked at number one in terms of dollar sales last year in the U.S., which is the world’s largest sneaker market. Powell elaborated, “This is the first time a Nike product has not been on top in more than a decade.”

While the remaining nine sneakers in the top ten were Nike styles, or from the brand’s subsidiaries like Converse and Jordan, it doesn’t take hard metrics to see that adidas has been picking up a lot of steam in the lifestyle market since 2015, and this upward trajectory shows no signs of stopping, with adidas’s continuation of key partnerships and collaborations.

Also, while we’re only in the beginning of April, Powell also shared some thoughts on 2017’s best-seller list.

I hope Superstar is not on top next year https://t.co/De9JTclZB5

I see you follow Matt too! Dude gives so much insight on the industry.

exactly, what hyped up in sneaker circles doesnt translate on the grand scale. as crazy as people are for boost, it doesnt move numbers or dollars. which is probably why adidas keeps stock low to begin with. market research
They got it down to a  science. At this point they are beating Nike at a tactic that Nike somewhat invented.

Agree and also

You all took for granted that everything that happens in the US happens worldwide. Sneakerheads are such a small portion of consumers out there. In Europe, the louder the shoe the less appeal it has, for regular people, unless it's some designer ****, or italian , sure for us it's dope, lit, a work of art, I remember my uni in Paris, the sole fact of wearing sneakers put you in an outsider level, only thing that get a green light were stan smiths and super star, even the dude wearing AF1 was overlooked lmao . Asia is big on Champion/Fila/Sketchers, SouthAmerica and Central America doesn't have the acquisitive power to spend in shoes like yeezys or UB @glaflair  can vouch for this . Oceania, well you don't see much sneakerheads from Australia or NZ  ...

didnt take it for granted just didnt mention it specifically. but i think its a pretty safe assumption to make that the vast majority of shoe consumers in the world arent caught up in some "culture" that some people seem to think has some HUGE impact. How often do you see it posted when overseas NT fam post about UBs sitting in retail stores? werent cny's sitting in Asia?

Yes and yes . We blinded lol

Remember that cost of living is relatively higher in countries outside of North America. People may not have as much disposable income (percentage against income) as we do here in NA. Additionally, housing costs more and most people live in apartments, so they may not have the physical space to store so many sneakers.

It truly is a crazy consumer culture that we have here in North America.

To be fair I think popularity of sneakers arrive to sneakerheads first and then the general public

I've been seeing plenty of NMD's around my campus lately compared to almost none last year even though NMD's are considered "dead" by the sneakerhead community

Also agree. We live in a different world. Most of the people I interact with would trip and stop talking to me if they realize how much I spend on sneakers.

Because they're easier to get in store. I don't know a single person who's a fan of waiting online for a company to decide they do want their money

Man I debate this on twitter with NPD guys. They say Yeezy had no effect due to the fact that so many people who don't know who Kanye is wears them. My argument is that you can't do analytics on hype unless you started tracking sales the day Complex and Kicksonfire pics of Kanye wearing 1.0s went viral. It's a marketing cycle. For example I wear Boost dude to Kanye rocking the OG 1.0s. A few weeks later I cop my first pair and fell in love. I told my fam and friends about this insane cushioning. Now even my moma and sis wear them. They are die  hard Air Max lovers. This topic will be debated for years.
Kanye was rocking pure boosts first.

not sure what I should do... bought zebra's on resell for $1100, been wearing it since day one.

Wondering whether I should try to sell and catch the relatively high prices ($800 maybe? ) and then try my luck with retails on the 24th.

Especially if its gonna be Cream numbers. That means it'll hit $400.

zebras aren't hitting $400, not even $500.

creams only that low because GR basically and plain as hell. Id have no problems with cream if they had the red 350 on em. I think more people would love em

Why would you do that..? If anything just keep the pair you've been wearing and hope you actually will get the Zebras if/when they release again...

you'll be lucky if you get half of that $800 for a well worn pair of Zebras. I see DS pairs right now at $700-$800

No Yeezy is a GR. The creams were just the most available. Prices will rise eventually
