Netflix looks like they got anothr hit...Burning Sands movie vol. Frat Hazing

I'll watch but doesn't seem like anything especially special.

They had movie about this for the white boys not too long ago.

Always been sus to me.

Thought it was pretty good other than the facial expressions during some of the hazing type scenes   I couldn't help but laugh even though they were often serious moments. I know people who are in frats/sororities that probably can't stand this movie because of the way it portrays Greek life, even if hazing has actually happened. This movie really took me back to when one of my roommates was pledging, and how serious he was with certain things he was doing and I was like

Probably wouldn't have seen this in theaters, so Netflix is perfect for this

They walked that man around with a dog collar on and had him barking like a dog. Dude couldn't even look at people, had to keep his head straight and drunk out a bowl. Just to be apart of these ****** weird group, nah, tell in my face and five me commands like that in slapping the **** out of u.

We were subjected to hundreds of years of slavery and made to do a lot of these same things and get this same treatment , why would people that you want to one day call brothers treat you like this in order to accept you? And why do you have to be part of some exclusive "group" for them to put words in for you , or in order for you to use them in networking and be a power player? Something i never understood. White folks do this for one another without all the drama, and just to help each other out while we find ways to make sure as little of our own progress :smh: :smh: :smh:

For the record, i did watch this movie, some good choices of young and up coming black actors, but this film just made me raise these questions. Wifey just flat out quit in the middle of the movie, due to her annoyance with all that went into the H*** Week. i at least wanted to see the end. So for purposes of the thread and the movie itself, while it was a good film, still left me with more questions than answers as to the nature of frat life.

Decent movie. Didn't enjoy the ending really. I wanted maybe 5 minutes more. But it was still good nonetheless.

Frat **** is sus. My friend did it and they were doing wild stuff like slapping each other's bare bottom with big *** wood paddles

It's basically a fabricated hardship to a) build a bond between pledges b) in many instances, recreate the struggles that the founders endured c) prove how bad you want to be a member and how dedicated you are with joining.

There are perks to being a member but a piece of dignity and great deal of comfort is sacrificed. Some people aren't willing to deal with that.

I'll watch it tonight.

Idk about bare, but paddling is standard. Along getting slapped across the back, chest, neck.

Just watched it, pretty accurate honestly.

wild how the doctor chose fraternity tradition over medical protocol. "I'll give you pain pills" :smh: I'm sure it happens all the time though. That's got to jeopardize his job. After watching the hell night scene, it looks exactly what I would would picture a lynching would look like before the actual hanging.

It's crazy that the tradition is what's most valuable and at the same time most costly to these organizations. Like a weird paradox.

Zurich looks like a mix between will smith and waka flocka.

I enjoyed it , it was based on a true story btw . The hazing incident that happened at famu a few years back

Watched it over the weekend. Expected some corny ****. Came away pleasantly surprised. The people who aren't rocking with it are mainly Greeks who don't like that the movie puts them in what they view a negative light.

We discussed this in the Netflix thread a few days ago. My response to a d9 dude who was asking about the movie in that light.

I rather focus on the story of the strong young men, and brotherhood that's reflected in the movie....

I came away respecting Greek culture....more than I ever did after watching this movie. And it came from seeing the interpersonal bonds and growth that I didn't see.

Greek life was never my thing, and it's highly problematic in many ways.....but there is a lot of good in there.

I think if you go into the movie with a different perception, other than (I hope this doesn't make black Greeks look bad), it'll be a much Moreso enjoyable watch.
