Netflix looks like they got anothr hit...Burning Sands movie vol. Frat Hazing

This movie was iight.
Every chapter has different ways. I never got down with pledging, but a lot of my close friends did.
I always wondered, what happens if you were to fight back?

Only watched half this movie because I finished the Pacer game last night. not gonna lie this **** definitely does happen. For the first two years of undergrad my two best friends pledged Kappa and long story short they got ****** up while pledging that they were put on probation and pledges got like a week off. Man I remember I even helped them sell some tree for one of their pledge dads

.  It also happens that the school I went to was the originating school that Kappa started so maybe that's why they were so wild.

Yeah I can only imagine what type of bs they put cats through at alpha chapter.
I'm sure the founders of most of these organizations are looking down shaking their heads.

Movie was alright.

All that BS just for a lifelong network, nah, could've never been me.

Not in a frat but the issues with movies like this is that they only show part of the process, yes you see the bortherhood built and the hazing process but I think what has frats and sorors upset is the fact that you make a movie about a bunch of young men who choose to go down this path for all of the wrong reasons either they be paper or get hazed. Nowhere do they mention what happens after you join while your in school or out of school and many forget that you dont even have to finish to join you can literally find a grad chapter and join.

Many people will watch those movies just like Drumline and think they have a sense of what it means to join a frat. People get respect on campus for more then just wearing a color of arms. Very few will go read the Divine 9 and learn what these organizations actually stand for outside of what is portrayed in the movie and that in itself is sad :smh:

I hear where your coming from but Hazing should be the story told, because people shouldn't be getting tortured in return for positivety. Doesn't matter what happens after you join because you have to be degraded to join. I don't see how these orginizations want to be seen as positive and helpful but stand by these kind of actions.

Most know u can pay to join or "go paper" but don't want to be ostracized, looked down upon, or treated funny because u didn't go through the torture process.

Looking down upon for not wanting to get abused or treated like crap. Nice system they got there.

Imagine that. That's backwards

Exactly. Now, only someone naive would believe that it happens in all chapters, it may or may not and it could be bad or worse depending on chapter. But the fact that you have to go through that just to belong is stupid. U got dudes upset about having to do a drug test for a gig but ok w/ degrading people to call them a brother/sister, what part of the game is that?

The organizations don't stand by hazing. What you have in many cases is a groupthink that happens in college. People associate greek life with an initial hazing process. But outside of college campuses, the organizations themselves abhor it and punish those who practice it.

Last summer I was on a cruise with a white fraternity. Some of them kids were cool as hell just drinking and talking to an, but they were treated like straight babies. Whenever the boat stopped they had to be in there rooms until they deported again. Dude's had to eat every meal at a certain time and had to be in their beds at a certain time. I'm like what's the point of a vacation? Idk if that was the "building" exercises or whatever dude's are talking about but I would've enjoyed my mfing vacation . Kids looked exactly like those rich white college kids u see on tv too, slicked back hair, sweaters around the neck etc, dressed just like Carlton banks.

Obviously Hazing isn't in EVERY chapter, but it's well known that this is still a very big problem. I don't know how much punishment is coming down from these orgs if somehow it continues to happen. if your building a org that is supposed to be branded by positivety and brotherhood i would think more would be done to stop these things from going on. However as the case with most "groups", the members keep that sense of brotherhood and protecting eachother even when the offenses shouldn't grant you that protection.

Chapters get suspended for years (some even get revoked forever), people get their letters taken back (meaning you get kicked out of the frat), and in some cases people go to jail over hazing. Trust me, the organizations on a grand scale does a lot to deter people from hazing. But there's a mindset that's innate in some people that it's for the good of the organization to do it and not get caught. Think about it like this: national headquarters of all organizations (black, white, Asian, Latin, etc) implement regulations that create all of those deterrents I just listed above, and it hasn't proven to be enough aren't enough to stop people from practicing it at their colleges. It is what it is for them.

Essentially what I'm getting at is the idea of shifting focus from the organizations on a grand scale and look at the individual chapters who get knocked for hazing.

Forget all this hazing talk n ish...

How the heck ol boy didn't know his Ace name? I knew everything about my LBs on day one & I had 4 LBs.

Also, ol girl gave a crazy reason for why she wanted to sleep with the different frat bros, but it's believeable. I've experienced those type of chicks during my days in college. Chicks see those letters and be ready to throw away all their morals.

Glad they played "Down For My Ns" during that turrible strolling attempt during the house party because that song has a special place in black greek culture. I know my frat bros up north use that song as their theme song for strolling while most BGLOs down here in the south use it for diss strolls.

Wish the ending would have been different. Instead of having a person die, he should have had them cross & change the way newer brothers would be brought in.

Also wish they would have shown the business side of things.

It's only so much they could of shown to close it out. They left it open at the end to make your own conclusions.

The cashiers at Whataburger :pimp:

Yeah I can't imagine in an era where these things were actually happening to black people by white supremacists that the founders would still engage in and approve this. Some of ya'll lost your way and don't want to admit it.

Crazy that a person willingly getting their *** beat makes them appear 'hard', 'made' or 'real', amongst the ranks of several orgs.

Crazy how blacks are a minority yet we're still SOOO divided.

I can't believe she was ready to smash like that. SMH

I wanna smash.

She was cute though can't front. His girl's roommate was just pure hatred for no reason lol.

Frats are just another iteration of politics. Your "bros" allegiance can be bought for the right price, which in college, isn't much. College dboys get to party at all the frats and get all the yambs for free. Frat dudes see GDIs up in their "closed parties" without having to go through the BS and get upset. Rightfully so, only to have the frat president tell them to chill  Most these dudes form their own cliques in the frat by junior/senior year any way and some start despising eachother. I can see the benefits being a freshman/sophomore in college. Being under 21, no crib to party at, no way to herd a bunch of girls together. Joining a frat is instant access to a social network. I believe you can build stronger networks on your own without having to pay dues and go through everything that comes along with pledging. Just takes more time and personality. However, I'm not denying some of these bonds formed by bros (especially pledging in same class) develop much more intensely and quickly than a normal friendship would. That's the point of the hazing, to form the bond with your brother. I think that is a benefit of frats. Obviously there's a lot of fakeness though, you're not gonna like everyone in your frat.

Sororieties are so much worse with the fakeness though. All the girls I knew were heavy into their sororieties freshman and sophomore year, formed cliques with the girls they liked, got housing together junior/senior year and basically ignored their sororiety's events outside of parties and formals. Some straight up stopped associating with their sororiety at all like it was played out or something. Of course you'd never see that from the guys because they are getting freshman/sophomore yambs galore at that point. I also wanna add, roofie culture is real and rampant in frats. I'm not saying EVERY frat, but damn, a few bad apples really gave frats a bad name for date rape.

Greek life is cool IMO. You just can't let the organization take over your individual identity, then you straight.

You phrat?

hennessy hennessy you ain't lying that roofie stuff is real and I've seen it first hand and dude got stomped out damn near. Some of those frat dudes are straight predators.

The simple fact that I have to be closer to some random dudes then my own brothers is already a problem with me so I'd never. I wonder if they follow up this Netflix Original with a female one
