If this is gonna look like the new styleforum then goodbye to niketalk
The company we're working with did not handle the styleforum migration.  All of these sites are using the same underlying forum software now.  There's just an obvious choice on that front.  However, there's considerable variation in how the platform can be skinned and configured.

There will be some similarities between all of the sites mentioned as a result, but there will be some major differences as well.

When we're done, the idea is for it to look like NikeTalk.  The theme is still very much in progress, and I wouldn't want to show off a standard theme in black/red as that wouldn't be a great indication of what you can expect.

One point I will mention, however, is that the new platform has support for multiple themes.  We won't start with that option, but, over time, we will look to make additional themes available - and the system will save your preference.
Along with being able to embed more types of videos, please make it possible to embed tweets.

Search in the mobile version of the website would be great too.

Other than that, I'm pretty happy with the way NT is.
There's good news and bad news on this one, and I'll just address the latter first:

The system does not yet have simple embedding for Twitter or IG.  I wish it did, and it's a very common request.

That said, this is not Huddler, where development is effectively frozen.  The platform is continually evolving and, in fact, a major version update is expected within the next 12 months.  The platform also supports add ons and custom development.  (We try to run as close to stock as possible for performance and security reasons.)  So, I can't promise that we'll have those features by a specific date, but it's important to point out that the "finished product" we launch with will continue to evolve and grow over time.  It won't be locked in, as the current feature set has been, for years with no upgrades.

I believe we will eventually get simple Twitter/IG embeds in time.  It's just too popular of a request for the devs to ignore forever, and the possibility exists that external development of such a feature could occur as well, and support could be incorporated into an add on.

As for the mobile site, we'll be using a single, responsive design that adjusts to suit the user's display rather than a separate, stripped down mobile site.  That means we can make everything perfectly readable and touch friendly on your mobile device without sacrificing features, like we are now.  With the current site, you can't even create a buy/sell listing on mobile because they never got around to it.  The mobile site was left permanently unfinished.  On the new platform, everything will work.  You'll be able to search on mobile.

(You actually do have search functionality on the current mobile site by tapping on the menu button, but I assume it doesn't work very well.)
Will the .gif maximum upload size for desktop go up?
Will photo usage be easier?

I know these questions are hardly urgent so if you want to just answer them when you are writing up more important information, totally fine. Absolutely no rush

The maximum upload size hasn't been determined yet.  It may go up, but I can't guarantee that until after we've completed our analysis.

We all enjoy .gifs, but the actual file format itself is incredibly dated and inefficient.  Webm or h.264 formats offer a superior compression rate.  It's my hope that, in the future, HTML5 video support can allow users to upload larger/longer looping videos with no compromises while still adhering to the size limit.

And, of course, everyone will still have the option to host gifs externally, using a gif uploading service.

To your second question:  photo uploads are different.  To most people, change = bad.  There is one area where the new system is a clear win in that area: it supports drag and drop image uploads.

Otherwise, the UI, in the current version, for image uploads isn't ideal, because I think most people assume it would be under either the "picture" button or the "camera" button, and it isn't.  (Those support external image linking and media gallery embedding, respectively.)

To upload, you have to go to a specific "upload a file" button, upload the image (or drag and drop), and then you can choose, at any point, to insert that image into your post at your desired location.  (You can then drag the image around to move it, if you wish.)

The downside is that it takes more clicks and isn't as intuitive as I'd like.  The advantage, besides drag and drop, is you get greater precision.  You can't accidentally delete the image in your editor and be forced to start your upload again.  All the attachments are saved and you can insert each one wherever you like or even multiple times, without re-uploading it.

It's not a bad system, and I fully expect that it will continue to evolve, but it will take a little getting used to at first.
In terms of the quoting system, hopefully

1. Only the last quote gets quoted. Seeing multiple quotes in a chain can be a pain to scroll through.

2. Long blocks of quoted pictures should be placed in spoilers.
1.  As it stands, multiple quotes are supported - but each one is limited in size and can be maximized on click, as shown in a previous post.

2.  Long blocks of quoted pictures are limited in the same way, and you can see the details here: http://niketalk.com/t/660120/niketalk-will-be-moving-later-this-year/240#post_28045412
is da embed system finally gonna work for anything other than YouTube, Vimeo? it took years just to find da IG work around...
What other video services are you looking for?  I can test and see if they're supported.

With embedding, you have to understand that security comes first.  The system can't reasonably be open to anything.  First and foremost, we want our community to remain online, be safe for our community members, and perform well.  Some limitations are required to meet those goals.

Can you tell us if the new platform will have a block feature and if it will be less conspicuous than what we currently have (big white bars that denote a blocked members posts)?

Looking forward to the move and seeing what new features come with it.

Can you tell us if the new platform will have a block feature and if it will be less conspicuous than what we currently have (big white bars that denote a blocked members posts)?
The short answer is: yes.  The new platform has an "ignore" feature, and it's much less conspicuous than what we have now.

If a user you ignore posts in a thread, you won't see their replies at all - unless you click a link at the very bottom of the page that says "Show Ignored Content."

Even if the user posts their own new thread, you won't see that thread in the forums while the user is ignored.  Similarly, an ignored user can send you PM's, but you won't see them.  No stub, no "message from ignored user," nothing.  It's like it never happened.

Ignoring a user is simple.  Just click/tap on the user's name, then on 'Ignore."  If triggered inadvertently or you change your mind, you'll need to click "Show Ignored Content" in order to see their username again, click that, and then click "Unignore."

It's a better system.

Bonus: if you have a user ignored on the current site, we're planning to carry those settings over to the new one.

I just hope we can get a "1 time" name change with the new home..Most of us have user names that no longer apply and would like to have something better to use..

Lol I made my sn in like the 8th grade when being a sneakerhead was cool. It'd be funny seeing everybody change their names now that we're all older. You'd have people's sn going from MySpace to facebook.

We are looking at exactly that.  One of the issues we'll likely encounter with this move will be a loss of formatting in usernames (capitalization, etc.)  To correct that, one possibility would be to give each user a "one time" name change, which could be used to correct the capitalization/spacing/etc. OR to change to a different account name.

That'd be great..And if we still will be able to have signatures, maybe you could make it a rule that every person who changes their name must put there former name in their sig. so as to help lessen any confusion..

Any thought to folks trying to take others names if we decide on the one time change route?

So glad you guys are entertaining the name change process, Meth.

I've been waiting a damn decade to do so and now it's about to come to fruition. :pimp:

If you have not yet transferred your account from our old platform, you will need to make sure you do that ASAP to ensure that it makes the journey. Contact our support team via email for assistance.

finally came across this thread.

:nerd: I'm not sure whether or not I transferred my account. I contacted the support team via email using the feedback option. Also, for some reason I haven't received email notification from NT in years even though my notification settings on so I may not receive a response

Are there going to be new emojiis?
nerd.gif
As it stands, I see no reason when the classic ones can't make a return.  However, we're at a transition point with displays - as last occurred with the changeover from 4:3 CRT displays to 16:9 1080P LCD displays.  As more and more users adopt 4k/retina displays, we need to make sure everything works well whether you're using 4k or 1080P.  The standard emoji set would be minuscule in 4k, and emojis designed for 4k would be massive for 1080P.

A common solution for this - though not, perhaps, an ideal one - is to have each emoji available in two sizes, and allow the system to display the size/resolution that is most appropriate for each user's display.

Our legacy emoji characters are decidedly low res.  Some people like that, and it's easy to scale those and keep them essentially the same, since they're blocky to begin with, but we may have to look at some cleaner and higher resolution emojis based on the existing set if that winds up being a better fit for us.  We'll see how it goes.

Supporting emojis from mobile devices is also very important, and future versions of the forum software should allow for the standardization of those characters.

Yeah, that's not possible for a couple of reasons.

First of all, we are importing all banned accounts into the new system just to keep them banned.  Those accounts will not be available for anyone to register.

Second, if you change from jthagreat to jthagreater, nobody can rename themselves "jthagreat."  The name you changed FROM can't be claimed.
That'd be great..And if we still will be able to have signatures, maybe you could make it a rule that every person who changes their name must put there former name in their sig. so as to help lessen any confusion..
We're looking at using custom user titles to handle that.  Whether it's done automatically by the system or manually for those users with significant post counts will be determined by the technical challenges involved, but we'd like to have some "formerly known as" labeling available to reduce confusion - especially since so many users could change their names within a short time.

Change is difficult for some people, and there will be considerable change on the new site as it is.  We want to try and soften the impact as best we can.

Your email is verified, your account WILL be transferred to the new site.

The reason you're not getting email notifications is because you, perhaps inadvertently, once reported an email from NikeTalk as spam.  When that happens, the system stops sending you emails.  I can re-enable them for you, if you'd like.

Basically, if you can post to our forums NOW using your account, your account WILL be available to you on the new site.  The ONLY thing you need to make sure of is that your email address is current and that you know your password.

I'd love to have my old username and even my old start date if that is even possible. My name was hacked and I have this "Mr" to make it different.

If you can still log in to the old account on that old forum network which shall remain nameless, we can recover it for you.  Just send me a PM or send an email to support.

We can't merge the two accounts, but we can recover the old one and you could use that moving forward, if you wish.

I cant update my email address....

whenever i try it says there is an error and it cannot be processed

I can bring back Mateen Cleaves??? :nerd:

I just tried on the other forum and it doesn't seem to work. Oh well....no big deal but thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for the prompt response and clarification. If you can re-enable it, it'll be greatly appreciated.
