****The Everything LaVar Ball Thread****

Your parents can want you to be whatever they want, but if the child  doesnt have the skills to make it in said profession theyll fail. Now if your child has the skills, then its a diff story. I have an Uncle who is a surgeon and hes super elitist. Hes  paid for my cousin to attend  expensive elite schools and universities and bragged about how he was gonna pass his practice to my cousin and flourish.  He's always wanted my cousin to become a surgeon that was his dream. My cousin had all the opportunities to be like his father, but he didnt have the skill set or the intellectual wherewithal to make it in the medical field. My Uncle has known for years that my cousin doesnt have what it takes, but he never gave up and forced his son to pursue medicine because it was HIS dream. Now my cousin is all messed up mentally and works as a secretary in his fathers medical office. My uncle lived through his son more than Lavar, in my opinion. It looks like the Balls have the skills to possibly be what their dad wants, and it seems like they truly love playing basketball. I think his talking and crazyness is used as a tool to motivate and inspire his kids. Hes different from my uncle because his Kids have the skills to make it, my cousin didnt.

Agreed, this is what I was referring to. This style of parenting is all good if your kids actually enjoy what they do, but it can go terribly wrong and make their lives miserable if they don't.

What do yall expect Lonzo to say about his sons? They suck and have ugly jumpers and their ceiling is a poorman's Steph Curry?

Just my opinion: he shouldn't be making these types of comments publicly. His sons are talented, but it's too damn early to call them future NBA stars that won't play anywhere except for elite teams. Have we not seen hundreds of high school superstars that end up being mediocre/trash in college or the NBA? How happy are his sons going to be then if their adult careers don't end up the way they planned? If they don't make it, the comments and clowning towards them are going to be 100x worse

One extreme to another....now a Tebow rant :smh:

Point is....it's perfectly fair to criticize or not like how Lavar Ball is gassing his kids up. Nothing at all wrong with that. It's preference.

Also, there is nothing wrong with calling into the racial undertones that can come when some ppl call him out.

That's all there really is to it.

I personally think Lavar is a troll, a good dad, an opportunist, a comedian, a fool and a visionary all in one.

Interested to see how this all unfolds.

I like LaVar's hustle, famb is using his boys to slang that struggle clothing line he got.

Dem boys look so hurt when they gotta rock that ****

It's more what I expect him not to say. He could be confident without saying his son is already better than a two time MVP.

I don't know the names of any of the other parents of the other top prospects in the draft. Same with last year aside from Ben Simmons and that was only because his pops had a basketball background. Most the time parents just stay in the cut and let their sons do their thing.

You know the media is going to sensationalize anything this guy says. They're there to write a story, they could care less if it impacts the sons negatively. They're going to keep interviewing the pops and asking him questions in hopes he says something outlandish, and when he does, guess who has to answer for it? The son is the one playing ball, not the father.

True, he prob shouldnt  make such proclamations public, but you gottta remember Lavar is trying to build a brand. I dont think you can Blame Lavar if their careers dont pan out. Lavar cant play for them.

??? I literally posted that they did like playing basketball in the post you quoted. I wasn't speaking on this specific situation as much as I was speaking on that type of parenting. Why quote me if you're not going to read what I posted?

read it too fast. I take it back. My apologies.

the rest of my post still stands.

Cuts in the eybrows is like a young Cali dude staple. I had cuts in my eyebrows when I was Lamelo's age smh.

I think there is a BIG difference in saying you won't play for a certain team (Lindros, Manning, Elway, Francis, etc.) and saying your non-professional kid is the same or better than a current MVP. I don't think anyone is insinuating that Ball as a parent shouldn't be supportive of his kids. It's just the way he's going about it that's a bit off. Unfortunately, his sons are gonna have a huge target on their backs due to what the father has been saying. It's a shame because from what I've been reading, Lonzo (who is obviously ready for the NBA) is a good kid. The father has somehow made his sons success all about himself with the crazy talk. I guess the silver lining in all of this is, Lavar will now be a media darling in the sense that folks will ALWAYS be looking to get a quote out of him due to how he speaks before thinking. He, and his family, will probably get some reality TV show gig or documentary out of this.

Either you're one of those MJ apologists that feel he can do no wrong and never be surpassed...

Or you're just a hater.

What if I told my kid "somebody has to be better than Barack Obama" no one would scoff.

We hold sports to a different standard for some strange reason, and it's only compounded w/ the fact that this dude is black AND knows wtf he's doing.

Lonzo Ball is a 6'5', possibly end up being 6'6' all american freshman point guard shooting FORTY PERCENT from trey.

NBA players are not going into games thinking "I'm going to buss his *** b/c his daddy wants him to be the best." **** don't work like that, my g.

I don't know what you are even taking about at this point

I've been sticking up for the kids with the view that he's putting too much pressure on them to be superstars at the NBA level and if they don't pan out it could negatively impact them for life

Let the kids do their thing and grow into what will become of them; let Lonzo be the first Lonzo Ball not the guy who is going to be better than MJ

“I think if all three of my boys get on the Lakers somehow, they would change the NBA,” he said. “There’s a way it could happen.”

“I’m going to speak it into existence,” LaVar Ball said Monday in a phone interview with The Times.

“Lonzo will make D’Angelo [Russell] the ultimate scorer as a two guard,” LaVar said. “He’ll make [Brandon] Ingram a nice slasher. He’ll make [Julius] Randle want to run the court.”

This a great father right here. :pimp:

You gotta speak things into existence.

Why is that a thing????

I dont even know, a style I guess,  dudes have been doing that for YEARS lol. I know dudes in their late 20s who may have a line or two in their eyebrows to this day. I stopped after 9th grade.

I never understood cuts either. When I moved to Maryland from the Carribben I remember asking the ole head on my block about it and he said

"Dudes with cuts in there eyebrows are either gang affiliated, or gay"

I was neither, so I never thought about doing it. Also they look kinda dumb imo

also delusional...

“I have the utmost confidence in what my boy is doing. He’s better than Steph Curry to me. Put Steph Curry on UCLA’s team right now and put my boy on Golden State and watch what happens.”

I agree 100%. I wouldn't trust or root for a dudes with cuts in his eyebrows....shady type of dude, let alone of a whole family that had that look.

A lot of the cholos I knew growing up that wanted to be hood yet fashionable had them. It was always weird to see dudes with eyebrow designs and 7 jeans that also claimed to be from the most dangerous neighborhoods in Cali
