Sup NT,

quick questions to those who know the corporate world. I just started my first job after graduating college in IT as a gov contractor/.

I started last week and was thinking about taking a 1 week vacation/paid time off in mid may..

My question is whether or not that makes me look bad or unreliable..?

Was thinking about telling my manager during mid march cause thats when I plan on buying plane tickets...

Any opinions?

This isn't a vacation you had booked pre getting this job? I wouldn't go, that looks bad bro.

Just my opinion though.

Bad look imo unless it's for personal reasons (family, personal health, etc.)

You can't wait for your real vacations to kick in?

Should've asked to start one week later and do wtv before starting on the job.

I see... Thanks for the opinion... How long should I wait...? My sister said I should wait 6 months.. What are yalls opinion?

if you didn't tell them once you were hired then you better plan vacation for the fall or winter

Thanks for everyone's opinion!

Its set then. Im going to plan for mid October. How many months in advance should I tell him in yalls opinion? Sorry for so many newb questions lol

ASAP. I have vacation I'm taking in October on peoples calendar. The earlier the better.

At my old firm the once Jan 2 came around people were putting in for Thanksgiving and Christmas off.

Theres no probation period? I wouldn't request time off until like 6-9 months

This. Most jobs have a 3 or even 6mth probation period. I wouldnt take anytime off until thats up, unless its a family emergency or something like that.

You likely won't even have PTO into May if you just started working there. Unless you told them when you were hired, leave it for the end of the summer/fall.

yeah, I would go. back when I got my current job they asked when I could start I told them on Friday.

That's a bad look doing that after accepting the job. I just let my new employer know about a pre-existing vacation that's a month in before accepting the offer, they checked the schedule and it was all good. Had trip cancellation insurance in case though.

It's your PTO, use it how you wish.

If you're a hard worker and never get sick, you'll gain the respeck regardless.

Most likely don't start accruing til after a 90 day period..

But anyway..no do not take off that soon

I normally wait atleast three months or if I really have nothing planned a year. That way, I have a enough PTO for atleast a week's worth of leave.

But like what many said here, give it some time and work your tail off. When they see you are working hard, asking for time off is easier IMO.
