Leather quality on 2012 Jordan 11 Bred?

How does the leather feel where the jumpman is on the heel, compared to a 2016 Space Jam 11? I have both on hand and the leather on the Space Jam is more plush. Is this a normal characteristic of the bred 11's that will soften up over time? To be honest, it feels like cardboard vinyl like. But then again, I'm not a leather expert.

2012 breds didn't have great quality leather as most releases from that time.

This. I have concords and 09 SJs DS and honestly, I'm not a fan of the quality of either one. I need a replacement black/red XI pair and I refuse to buy a 2012 pair for the prices they're asking.
 
The Breds and Gammas are nothing too special in quality, Breds are a bit better quality than Gammas though IMO.  2016 SJs are better in quality than Breds/Gammas/Legend Blues in shape, leather, stitched numbers.  The 2011 Concords are basically somewhat disappointing in quality too, hopefully they retro soon with the quality and mold of the SJs.
 
So you guys would agree that the leather at the heel almost feels like cardboard or totally cheap fake leather?

If I told you the quality was awesome, would you believe me?
 
Yes, if it is your honest opinion.

The first question I asked wasn't confirmed, cardboard like quality. I would just like to confirm this if this is OK?

Yes, the leather quality on the '12 blk/red XI's are really bad.  Almost cardboard-like.  And if you hold those and the '16 SJ together, the XI's almost feel and look fake.

It's barely any leather on the shoe. So to me it's such a minor thing that it doesn't even matter. Never made any difference in comfort.
 
The stiff cardboard leather is actually more true to the OGs. I beleive its intended purpose is to hold its shape better. 2000/2001 releases had butter soft leather, but it lost its shape very quickly. Many pairs came with pre creased panels around the ankle and after a few wears the whole ankle area would chub out and lose its shape.
