this was good, too bad people got really crappy shows when he came to their towns.

he was here and he literally had the dj play a game with the crowd, and he talked nonsense.

dave will always be funny, some people are just blessed.
He's not a traditional stand up joker which is why l find him hit or miss.

His story telling is top notch though.

People need to know that stand up shows are never consistent. They change depending on the crowd, the town, the comics energy, etc. I've seen Chappelle twice and he was funny on one show and the other, he was just meh. Even one show, we had this god damn Asian drunk heckler that wouldn't shut up and he totally ruined some of his punchlines and even set the crowd in a bad mood. I've even seen Tracy Morgan and it was one of the worst shows I have ever seen since he had to have notes to remember his jokes but man, the best thing about it was he bagged on white people the whole show and most of the crowd was white and assumed he'd be Tracy Morgan from 30 Rock. Only people laughing were the minorities. It was something else.

Speaking of Netflix comics, Ali Wong is making a killing out here in SF. She had 6 shows only months ago and all sold out and is even coming back again in a month or two. I wonder if her jokes translate well in middle America.

She plays her part though. She's a tiny Asian girl. She has to come crazy with her jokes. I mean comedy is all subjective but I didn't think her special was a 1 star. I hope she has more diverse jokes though. Kind of like Kat Williams. You
Can't be this little angry guy in every special.

Amy's special was a 1 star.

Ali's special is 4.5 stars.

watched the first one, thought it was good and had its moments. went in expecting classic DC , hes obviously a very different person now. jaded, less interested, or whatever it is. still a quality stand up.

he's got that john wall hate, talkin about other comedians money

Oh....that makes sense. Amy is in real trouble with all this parallel thinking crap with her stealing jokes. That is like the cardinal rule in stand up. Look at Carlos Mencia. The guy hasn't been the same since his accusations from Joe Rogan.

I saw this video of Amy. I mean it's a pretty tough call.

Seen the first episode and loved it. felt it was a catch up since he's been gone for a while. hopefully I'm predicting that the second will be him performing as if he never left the game.

saw Ali's pregnant special and thought it was funny. my filipino friends showed me it but that's exactly why. My friends were the target audience and I'm not(mexican). Same thing with Jo Koy. Asians love him and other female friends seen Angelina Johnson(mexican ex-raiders cheerleader) and think she's hilarious. I get the jokes. They work just doesn't make me laugh out loud. People like Dave, or George Carlin, Louis CK(who has netflix specials lined up this year), Bill Burr, and Eddie are up my alley. You can only laugh at an environment that you are accustomed to. Ali Wong playing in SF is perfect, let her cook.

I believe the first one was cut up between different nights at that one location.

Really? So he just wore the same clothes for multiple nights?

Not tryna come at you, just genuinely surprised if Age of Spin was really multiples nights of footage stitched together. I only watched it once yesterday but it seemed like his outfit was exactly the same throughout the show.

This is normal. I've heard multiple comics explain how when they film a special, they'll perform back to back sets at the same place and then edit in the best parts of both nights into one.

The first was was mildly funny. I'm not gonna call it a classic or anything but it was solid and old Chappell. The second one lacked rhythm and seemed like a step down in quality.
I enjoyed the feel and tone of the second more. Felt like he was working through a lot more material in the second. Nothing like when a comedian takes a seat, lights a cigarette and starts riffing. Got to catch a Mooney set like that years ago, and I'll never stop talking about it.

I saw Paul Mooney live years ago and he did this. He said some of the funniest **** I've ever heard.

Second show was definitely funnier, but the rape superhero callback to end the Bill Cosby joke in the first show was some legendary ****. Also, the Phife tribute was perfect :frown:

The Asian chick was hilarious to me.

Second episode of the special was good. Not sure how old it was though. Dave was still pumped from whatever juicing he was doing. First one was cool but I wouldn't care to watch again.

Alright so, Dave Chapelle is my favorite comedian of all time. Hands down, no contest.

With that said, I think he'll never regain prime form. I don't think he's unfunny or anything, he's hilarious but it ain't nothing like the old Dave.

This special was back in '15 and so IDK if he's improved since but while there were definitely moments where the old Dave shined through, overall he didn't have me dying like prime Dave did.

Seen him live in the 00s, and let me tell you. He was like a young Mike Tyson back then. If you thought he gave no dambs in these shows, he gave negative dambs back then.

All that said, 80% Chapelle is still funnier than about 99% of these cats out here and that includes Kevin Hart.

Yeah the second one was funnier. He was in rare form.

Thought the first show was very funny so I'm looking forward to the second one when I get around to it.

does anyone remember eddie murphy raw when he made the joke about bill cosby's son wanting to see his show?

and daves son wanting to see kevin hart?

I think there will always be jokes like that w/ comedians, it's just a natural thing. If Kev ever does another stand up in his later yrs I'm sure he'll have one.

I liked both of em but the second was def funny though dated slightly.

I also watched Trevor Noah's recent one "Afraid of the Dark" that one was pretty good as well. The British in India bit had me dyin
