Niketalk, I Can Not In Good Conscience Recommend One Purchase Any Model KIA Motor Vehicle vol not on

Details? my sis had a kia back in the day and it served her well, especially during the Bush $4 gas era. The key was to not pay 40K for it.

Well I got every single upgrade plus the mega upcharge (which turned out to be a massive waste since I still only got 30mpg) for getting a Hybrid. MSRP on it was right at 37.5 in 2015. They lowered the price in subsequent years (mine is a 2015) probably to compensate for their ****** reputation which leads to incredible depreciation, far moreso than other brands.

So I;m going to throw lots of numbers out but yea I paid around $38k for it on a 7yr loan. $468 a month or something. I drive a lot so with 40k miles on it already, KBB says it is worth 13.5k. So I still have $28k left (bought it in June 2025), have about 39k miles. A few days ago my engine light schedule service comes on and it starts knocking hard. I dropped it off at the dealership and scheduled an appointment and got a rental. They couldn't get it in for about a week but sure enough, they call me back and tell me it needs a new engine. "Cool, handle that. It's under warranty." Well since I hadn't been getting my maintanence done through them they ask if I have receipts for all the maintenance I have ever had done. Nah not really. Well it's going to be $9,000 plus labor. Called KIA and one of their Escalated Dispute Affairs or whatever people echoed the same.

So that would put me at owing $36k on it, but would tank the value (because of a replaced engine and voided warranty) to about $9k :x and put me ~$46.5k in. So I'm down over 80% in less than 2 yrs and still have to pay on it for 5 and a half. .

The dealership called back acting like they were helping me out making a deal, they just throwing me offers that obviously are carrying over that massive negative equity, so I can pay more per month for 7 more years and get the base version which is like under 20 and be stuck with them for 7 more years.

At this point, I could just let it get repoed and get something new before the repo hits my credit since I'm going to be screwed for the next 7 yrs anyways. Might as well be riding clean. Either 7 years massively overpaying for a Kia or 7 years with bad credit. Then with me working for the Government with a Secret there's the aspect of how that affects my clearance status.

There's some class action suits out there on this exact engine turns out and apparently they do this often with the warranty shirkin. So I'm preliminarily talking to some lawyers, but I am stuck like Chuck for now pushing my mom's Malibu

Cot damn my dude write the executives, call your local news or something. Don't just eat that L.

Yea I wrote the California AG and BBB. Going to do Oklahoma's next and file with the FTC too.

Dude you played yourself with that loan.

Also is under warranty why not have the dealership handle the maintaince?

All and all man you messed up with this car

Dude you played yourself with that loan.

yep, stop blaming Kia for your lack of financial literacy.

let it get repo'd and move on, (maybe deed in lieu of repo?)

lord knows you take enough L's....unwanted pregnancy....morbidly obese baby mama... :x :smh:

The loan and dollar amounts were only mentioned as relevant because of how the added cost of maintenance for an under warranty component affects those values.

I'm not sure deed in lieu of repo helps me much because they're still going to take it to auction and might or will probably get less than even trade in value for it if I let it go sans engine so I still have to be responsible for the balance.

Are the oil changes free? I never thought they were. I just took it to where ever whenever I got the notification, usually a Jiffy Lube type place. Couldn't track down any receipts though other than one which isn't going to help me much since they say they want 5.

DatZNasty stick to the original plan my g. Me and Antoine Walker waiting in the cut for da alibi.
I missed out bad weather season already passed. People were driving their car into 3 feet deep water and then collecting.

Wait, they're trying to not cover you because you had oil changes elsewhere? What the hell?

What's the root of the engine issue? had a friend with a similar issue on a fairly new car had engine issues after a simple oil change at a jiffy lube. I forgot what they didn't do correctly, but jiffy had to pay up as opposed to the dealership.

I think it's a defect on their engines and not that Jiffy Lube messed up. A lot of people internet-wide are having catastrophic engine failures within the first few years and then getting the run around trying to get it covered.

I've never heard of this

You're paying $500 a month for the dam thing, why aren't you taking it to the dealership.

I know Kia ain't charging $50 for an oil chain he. I bet jiffy lube is prob charging more

Regardless if you're under warranty they have to cover it unless you did something to void it... which I don't think you have

Yeah have you read your warranty and agreement throughly are you sure you didn't void it with outside work?

They'd still have to prove something or a part caused the engine failure, or should. Their explanation of their's engine sludge and debris in the engine so it's a lack of maintenance issue doesn't seem to suffice. Unless of course I and people in the same situation, let it. The mechanic even finally connected on some human level and admitted even if I had never had the oil changed, that wouldn't be the cause necessarily but they have to call KIA for warranty guidance and KIA tells them yay or nay. Looks like now I have a spreadsheet of people with the same issue and some more contacts to try.

Well you gotta get a second opinion. Also what did jiffy lube do like my man posted in the screeb shot?

Just go back there abd ask for a report of you service they will have it on file.

Also you try going to a different kia maintenance center?

If your car was to just happen to disappear and end up in Mexico to never be seen again...... how would that effect you?

Don't let it go to repo. If you do then whatever the car sells for, lets say $8k, is what is covered. The difference is what your still liable for, the $30k. No t only will the repo show up on your credit report but the lender will also send you to collections. You might as well try to trade in the car for something new (not KIA) and look to see if you can add the balance to your new loan. It's not ideal but at least you have a car under warranty again that you can learn your mechanical mistakes from.
