On his podcast he said he was getting fat on purpose for a movie role. But didnt actually have any role, just that they always need a fat guy lol. So on the podcast he was constantly eating chicken and gravy and repeatedly joked about gaining 50 pounds.
Basically he got fat on purpose as a joke

I personally think he is absolutely a comedic genius and criminally underrated. He's my number 1 but i have seen many people say the same as you. It's like there is no grey area with him. You like him or you dont. If I had to pick one thing to show you what makes him so funny to try to win you over it would be this video of him doing an advertisement for his podcast who ended up dropping him for obvious reasons. If this doesnt at least make you smile than he's just not for you.
