Yup that was always my cap. A good 40 to 50 pairs. I can't imagine my regular *** self needing/wanting more.

I started to lose interest when Nike started hitting us with the fake limited shoes. I busted my *** to get two pairs of Eggplants and then they released them again a year later. Did the same **** with some Jays that year. Just kind of ruined my passion. I don't care if **** is limited or not but don't lie about it. I could get some of this **** discounted if I knew it would be around later. Prices going up and realizing all shoes come back out again. Seeing nerds buyings shoes to flip and not knowing anything about them. Shoe game is just dead for me. I still buy **** I like once it hits that $30-$50 range. I'll always like Air Maxes but they used to always be on sale. Don't think I ever paid more than $70 for a pair but now, it's out of hand. I'll always prefer basketball shoes over running shoes, just what I grew up on.

I'll always be interested. I'm just more selective now with what I buy. I been on a terrible streak lately though, that's about to end.

When you needed a connect to buy any somewhat popular shoe, the hype I'd dying down now but I have moved on from my sneaker head days. I only cop shoes that give me nostalgic feelings, which are mostly retro ball kicks and those are the easiest to obtain now

I coveted the Condord XI since I had an og pair in the 3rd grade. Moms couldn't afford the 2000 or 2001 retro. It was only right that I tried to get the 2011 retro since I had my own money to buy them.

I get to the local Hibbet sport at midnight. There are 8 people in front of me. No big deal. I'm definitely in a good spot to get a pair. We went down the line and everyone says what size they wear...

Everyone except the first person in line. He had headphones on and didn't speak to anyone. He was kicking it on a lawn chair so we mainly said "f him" and spoke about the different pairs we liked, how long we'd been fans of kicks, etc.

The line starts to get longer and longer. Surely enough the clock strikes 8 and it's opening time. The store employees made their way in. Unbeknownst to us, they got priority over the rest of us. There were 4 of them. One by one I see them each grab two pairs and check out. It's whatever, we thought, surely with such a high profile release, there were a lot more to go around.

And then the moment came that changed the way I look at shoes forever. They're only letting people in one at a time. Ol lawn chair buddy goes in, as is the custom for people who are first in line. One of the employees goes to the back and returns with a full case of kicks. The box is still taped up.

"Smart move, get us in and get us out instead of having to keep going to the back for pairs. Should be out of here in no time."

I was wrong. More wrong than I could ever imagine.

THIS ************ BOUGHT AN ENTIRE CASE TO FLIP.

The store employees see the outrage going on outside so they end up having to call the cops to escort this **** boy to his car. The second guy goes in, buys two pairs, and the employees come back to tell us all the men's sizes are gone. mean.gif

Spent the next hour rushing all over the city to try to find a store that would have a pair left. No luck. All gone. Ended up having to pay $320 resale for my Concords a few days later. mean.gif

Ever since then, I just look at the shoe game differently. That resale **** is for the birds. These days I stick to Nike running shoes that I can cop off of amazon. Never again will I wait in line on shoes. If I absolutely have to have em, I'll try to get a plug to secure a pair. If that doesn't work, it wasn't meant for me to have em.

This is awful, especially since the quality on that pair is bad. Some dude bought out the whole stock of TB III's in 2001 when I was working at NTNY

I bought a lot, but that was after buying 1 pair or 2 a year for a few years. I think I bought like 10 pairs in the last year

Never really lost interest but definitely fell back post 2004. Haven't bought a Jordan from 2004/2005 til the recent remastered joints. I was full on heavy addicted in the 90's and early 2000's. the internet low key ruined a lot of the mystique and at the same time helped with other things so idk. I've always stayed in air max new balance etc
post #44 of 192
Around summer of '15, still love sneakers but between cways being meh, drops every weekend (some times 2-3 a weekend), and price ... it felt good having random extra cash that would have been spent on shoes going in to savings seeing it stack up.

Plus every shoe ive bought since fall of '14 I havent wore.

Saving up to buy a home so Im also downsizing

For the past year or so, 95% of the time i have on the same ole white AF1 or pair of chuck IIs as dailys

On occassion ill throw on a Jordan, and sum runners at the gym.
I remember back in like '13 i had bought 9 pairs in 1 month mean.gif
post #46 of 192
Didn't exactly lose interest in sneakers. The current state of whatever this is (culture/game) just made me take a step back and reevaluate things, and over the last 18 months, I've stopped paying attention to the release calendar and I reorganized the closet: gave a few, sold some, realized I didn't miss any of those, and got rid of some more. I'm much happier with less kicks (most of them are still retros too).

One thing I have lost interest in is Nike. It's probably gonna be a long time before I own a pair of those again.
I haven't completely lost interest but I do feel it fading. I only cop things now for nostalgia purposes or something I missed out on awhile back. Went from 1 or 2 pairs per month to about 5 pairs per year.

Plus they're re-retroing everything I already have so that's playing a part as well.
Didn't read the replies but I'll read later.
To answer the question in the topic: I grew up. I work 5 days week in an office setting. That only leaves the weekends for me to actually get fly and throw on the kicks. Also, I'm a grown *** man...a lot of the spots I might go to have a dress code. So it's only a handful of situations where I might be able to get fresh and bang out with the fresh kicks.
When I realized that it was much better things to spend disposable income on like vacations and things of that nature as opposed to sneakers.
if i can't get them for retail i just dont bother anymore
post #51 of 192
I'll never lose interest completely. My feet need shoes and I prefer to wear sneakers whenever I can.

Definitely don't care as much now though. You grow up and realize they're just shoes and that there are much better things to spend your time and money on.

back when I had no financial responsibilities vs now.

it's either pay for my $170 utility bill or $170 to cop the latest sneakers.

it's a no brainer.

clothing, kicks, and more.

Just Added : Fresh Water AM95's. Air Trainer II Bo Jacksons. AF1 Supreme Nitro Mic Underground (more to come...

When it became hard to cop . Now that they're easy to cop (Jordans) the price are stupid 170 plus.
Last pair I bought was 5 years ago , now I'm selling them off one by one. I usually wear my black/white Nike roshe which I re up when the last one gets beat up 70 dollars. laugh.gif these joints are tanks

Very similar to many on here.

I'd say 2011 was probably my official down fall with the All Star XIIIs that dropped. After that, it really is just here and there I pick stuff up. I graduated college and was trying to fit in the social scene so I "grew up" my look a little bit. I made some other bad financial decisions as well in the process, but it helped me grow into a better man. Of course during those times I couldn't afford sneakers either.

Prices spiked during that time as well, and now I'm either at work or wrestling, so I don't really get to go out and rock sneakers anymore.

Consumerism is real as well. I highly advise everyone to watch the Minimalism doc on Netflix and read the book. It helped me also prioritize what I actually need. Downsizing my wardrobe and sneaker collection. Going to give away/sell some of my stuff when I go back home. All I want is a solid rotation. No more having heat just to say I have it, especially if I can never wear it.

Yea my interest isn't totally gone, and I'll admit I'd feel weird wearing some Payless sneaks to the gym or around town on the wkend.

To me it's a form of self expression, I guess. I run in flyknit racers and lift in air max 1s or 90s. Run errands in Js (only have 3 pair) NB577 or NMDs. Usually bar hop in sperrys.

So shoes are def a still thing, I just don't at all follow or care about hyped up releases (most look weird to me anyway). It only sucks when I discover a shoe years after it comes out and the only way to buy it is via eBay/reseller

I'm still with  it,  but i'm really trying to slow down now

It's crazy out here nowadays

2008, when I found out my wife (then girlfriend at them time) was pregnant. Realized I couldn't be spending $150+ on sneakers all the time anymore.

2. realizing that shoes dont last for ever... i have tons of shoes that are in my closet from 02-06 that if i wear today, they will fall apart, and they still look deadstock

3. my style changed... i cant step out in nikes when im on my grown tip...sneakers are more for work out gear or lounging imo.

4. change in responsibilities...you value your dollar more, even if you make more, and realize that you can put that 200 into other things that can help you later on in life

And this. I have sneakers in the closet that I'm afraid to wear now because the glue is weakening and shoes are coming apart.

some of ya need a trusty shoe repair shop, ill definitely concur that after alwhile joints judt start dying on you if you're not on top of em.

u ain't gotta really worry bout it till ur kicks start seeing 15+ years old.

simple sole separation can be remedied with a quick glue re-do.

thankfully newer retros don't crumble like da 90's OGs.

For me, I haven't lost complete interest in sneakers but as I got older it became a lower priority for me. I hardly cop anything now and my sneaker rotation has decreased to wearing maybe 2-3 shoes over and over. Lets see how it will be 5 years from now.
