Hating your job to the point of depression?

Anyone ever been through this? How did you get through/past it?

It's mostly the leadership of the team I am on. I damn near want to cry coming into work everyday. I am in no disciplinary action or anything, I am just miserable here.

I am even willing to take a pay cut at a new job.

Having interviews currently and some offers have been too much of a pay cut.

Gotta push through it my dude. I've been there and it's not a great feeling, but you've been looking so that's all u can do until u find a better situation.

I'm not to the point where you're at, but I'm definitely dissatisfied with my current position.  Pay is great, but my bosses are completely unorganized and constantly cower to corporate demands even when the demands are completely unreasonable.  There's been a mass exodus of qualified employees over the past few months and the majority of new hires that take their place work a day or two, say "**** this," and leave.

Unfortunately I'm in a bit of professional purgatory right now.  Can't really apply for a better position until December when I graduate with my advanced degree. Until then, I'm taking a bite of the **** sandwich and trying to make the best of my situation.

I've been in your position, OP. I know how you feel.

I encourage you to maybe find an activity or do something after work to break your weekly routine.

I'm sure you've already started, but if not, start applying for job openings. I did the same thing of accepting a job with less pay and was really happy I did.

Take it a day at a time and keep your head up. There will definitely be a better opportunity for you, soon.

Not depressed...

But when I walk in, I chant to myself to remain positive, attempt to have positive interactions with my coworkers, and do my best.

helps me start the day off well.

legit told my team leader in a joking manner, but was dead serious when I was like, I am trying to have a positive day and lets end this convo now.

she laughed it off, but I was being for real. worked.

Was like this with a won't mention fortune 500 company close to Norfolk, supervision were a bunch of ******s. Changing policies and procedures every other week so you had no idea what your role was. Some people doing all of the work while others played on their phones all day, again supervision did nothing about it but have meetings and send blanket warning emails to everyone. Had a bunch of cackling old women gossiping about co-workers whenever they left the room. I'd drive to work and literally start getting headaches the closer I got to the building. Only thing that got me through the day was hitting their gym at lunch time.

I finally started looking for a new job and shotgunning my resume anywhere and everywhere I was interested. Finally got the F outta there after Thanksgiving last year and on with a govt contractor. Don't regret it at all.

Just keep looking for something better and survive in the meantime.

^Yup, that is what I did too. I did my one year at the company and began applying everywhere.

i can somewhat empathize, but yea as already stated, push through it and dont give up...

my current position is like the real life version of Office Space, except i can work remotely whenever i want, with my work load only taking 1-2 hours per day to complete, and Fridays off (four ten-hour days)...

lots of people would love working conditions like that, but its boring as hell, like getting paid to sit in a waiting room...and there are only so many Lynda, GoSkills, Udemy, and Kahn Academy vids someone can watch to kill time

said **** it and got into a grad program, which is keeping me somewhat busy

OP get out of there before you the stress make you start losing your hair and you end up in the "Bruh...Tyga....Hair Gains....Vol. Jamie Would Be Proud" thread

Look for a new job ASAP and

Listen to motivational trap music while you work - this usually makes the day go by faster

Thank you everyone! Thank God my coworkers are cool. The job hunting scene is stressful. I just keep applying and waiting on calls.

Chalk it up as a character building period at this stage of your career. Keep a warrior's mentality and deliver great work with a positive attitude every day, despite bad leadership. Anywhere you go these same people will be working with you, only the names and faces attached to the leadership will be different.

If you feel like you can't handle your current work environment, then find another job that will pay you enough for your work and pay you to deal with the negative issues there.

I've been there. It's definitely tough. I've always tried to power through it when it happens. Not sure what your situation is like, but honestly, if you are sacrificing your happiness and well being for a job that you don't care about or hate, quit. It's just a job. You'll find another.

Most people would tell you to power through those tough times, but no job is worth it. If you're unhappy and depressed, just remember it's a vast world out there with a lot to offer you. Take a trip or retreat somewhere to recharge and think things through. If you feel the same coming back, maybe look into a career change. Most of us feel trapped in life sometimes, but honestly, if you REALLY think about it. You can literally do whatever you want. And if the job makes you unhappy, leave. It's not worth it IMHO.

I really should follow my own advice. I'm in the same kind of trap. But this thread isn't about me. Hang in there man. Step back and figure out what you want out of life and do what makes you happy.

Don't wait on calls, that will just make you frustrated when every time your phone rings you think its a recruiter. Apply for a job and forget about it. Onto the next till you are contacted for an interview by someone. Which could be months later. A lot of these jobs just like to collect resumes for future candidates.

If your job stressing you that much its time to leave or start spending your work days looking for a new one

Never. I've been bored with a job or wanted more money, but never depressed or wanted to cry. I'd quit if it was affecting me that much.

Currently looking for jobs as I type. I just had a son, so i can't just quit. But I'm gonna push through. Gonna turn on some music and zone out. Report back once I get a new gig!

This one hit close to home....I know the struggle. Currently going through it daily. It can be the worst. I have 2 children and a fiancé at home and I find myself bringing it home after work also. Has completely changed my psyche. Knowing I have to wake up and go into the office everyday is a chore. Keep your head up man. I am trying to work all of my connections and pull some strings to find something new with similar hours/pay/benefits. Its been tough. Good luck to you. I hope you find something and can get yourself out of the situation.

I had a job like that and it made me miserable. This was a couple years ago though. During the holiday season, the workload got unbearable and it started to affect my quality of life. I remember that I was so depressed that I didn't even wanna spend Christmas with my family :frown:

I drank more than any other point in my life.

I ended up quitting and settling for a part time gig shortly after. Luckily for me, I was still living with my folks and didn't have any crazy expenses.

The only thing that you can do about a toxic work environment is to remove yourself from it. Best of luck OP

Me currently. Spend 45 mins in traffic going to a place I hate in the morning,

then an hour to get home, im self medicating with whiskey, :smh:

I hate my current job/position....been applying for new stuff for about 6 months,

its a damn job LOOKING for a job

24 hours in a day. 8 to work and 6 to sleep. That's 10 hours left. Use that ten to better your 8.

Well...

It's not really that. You spend 8 hours actually working, but it's not like most people can shut their brain off and not think about work.

You spend 1 or 2 hours commuting to work.
Then you spend another 1 or 2 hours trying to mentally recover from a stressful day.

Then you prepare to sleep knowing that you gotta spend your next waking 8 hours in hell. :smh:

Rinse.Repeat.

Don't even get me started on Sunday afternoons...

I pretty much consider Sunday pre-work day. Spend 1/2 the day getting ready for the week. Getting your hair on point, shave, iron clothes, lunches (if you carry).
