How old is to old for unworn Jordan's

I'm sure this has been asked countless times but when talking about Jordan retro's, how old is to old to be buying for casual wear? 2 years old, 5 years, 10 years,........? I do most of my purchasing through StockX just not sure how old a pair of retro's I can go and still casually wear them without worry of them completely falling apart on me or just being trashed. If it matters I'm looking at Jordan's 3-14, didn't know if it was different ages for different years or if it's all the same?

Not really a set time line and varies by each model as they all have different materials which will deteriorate differently, on top of how they were stored and/or cared for.

After are 6-7 years paint will chip easily and sole crumbling can happen with 10+ year old shoes

Certain models will start deteriorating sooner than 6-7 years. For example, my 2012 Bred 4s have already started chipping very badly, even with minimal wear.

Got to watch out for sole separation for sneakers that are 10+ years old as well.

My 2007 black cat 3s separated with heavy wear over 10 years. The only shoes I've known to crumble at the day unworn shoes left in plastic bags

I think the only ones 1-14 that can withstand time with TLC are the 1, 11-13s tho the plastic tab on the sides of the 12s can crack and disintegrate.

Yeah I think it's kind of ironic that the longest lasting Jordans are the very first model. There are DS '85 1s that look newer than DS '05 pairs of the other models due to the aging problems that were defined ITT.

Ive only taken my 2011 concords out the box once when I first bought them. Im scared to see what they look like now

So is it best to store them out in the open in my closet? Air conditioning in the summer and heat in the winter.

My 2012 BREDs are still fine. Wore them last week

I think its best to wear shoes(not necessarily wear them out) and store them in a cool place with some air. My Orange Blaze 8s are separating a little but not too much.

Storing the shoes in gallon ziplock bags is a cheap way of storing them. If you're going to keep shoes stored away for years though, I would suggest taking them out once every year or so and wearing them around the house. This allows some pressure to be put on the midsole and stops them from getting the dreaded midsole crack if you try to UNDS them years from now without them ever having put any pressure on them.

Yeah this is definitely true. Wearing them also helps because some moisture from your foot gets into the material and keeps it from drying out.

The first Jordans I've owned where the sole separated were purchased in 2003... the sole separated in 2012....

I have my OG 1997 Jordan XII's in the Obsidian color. The glue is now starting to break down on the soles after all theses years. Main spot on the carbon fiber shank that needs glue the most. They are stored in my garage (I live in a townhouse. Garage is rarely opened during the winter as the two cars in there don't get driven during winter months and it stays realitively warm in there as the HVAC is just behind the back wall that separates the garage to the house. Plus there is ZERO light in there when no one is in there). with the rest of my collection. Only issues on them and with a little bit of Barge Infinity Cement, should be right as rain.

Now my OG Unlimiteds are a different store all together [emoji]128546[/emoji][emoji]128546[/emoji][emoji]128546[/emoji] Same with my 1994 Jordan II Chicago. Those cracked badly and cannot be worn again [emoji]128557[/emoji][emoji]128557[/emoji][emoji]128557[/emoji] The Unlimiteds are just breaking apart all around the midsole in pieces. [emoji]128542[/emoji][emoji]128542[/emoji] But my 1994 Chicago 1s are perfectly wearable and the most minimal of side separation on the sole. A small dab of glue is all they need.

Every shoe is different.

I wore my 96 11's up until a few years ago. I bought them new at sportmart heh.

In 2010, the air bags popped. But I still wore them. I didn't wear them again until 2013. I took about 10 steps, and both shoes started talking.

They sat on my shelf that whole time, until this year. I decided to get them revived. They sounded like maracas if you shook them.

Not any more tho, they got lunarlon in them now. View media item 2387729
