Wrestling Thread June 1st-4th/Post Extreme Rules Discussion

Y'all all taking Mauro's side...

This is the real world and some people are just mean ********. It's a fact of life you will meet and possibly work with people like that.

IMO Mauro needs to just man up and walk away from it. Whining doesn't make you a winner. And being a bully doesn't make you a winner either.

If that's JBL's personality that is who he is. Maybe Mauro was too sensitive?

I somewhat agree. At least JBL can stand up for himself.

Oh look another one of your horrible takes.

Where has Mauro whined about JBL? He did walk away and hasn't said a word.

Japan Mark Meltzer was the one who did the deep dive into the situation. Followed up by other recipients of JBL's bullying deciding ti share their stories.

Would you tell your kid to just walk away from a bully?

I would tell him to hit him back.

Wrestling is a "good ole boys club". Some people can mesh into that environment and some can't.

Clearly Mauro with his illness isn't cut out for that grind.

Doesn't make Mauro right but doesn't make JBL wrong either. JBL is likely acting the same way he was brought in. Product of environment.

Your wrong but ok. Do use all a favor tho and dont have kids please.

WWE reportedly working on settlement with Mauro Ranallo to not talk about JBL issue

Wish we could Negative rep this nonsense

So because MY opinion is different than some of those stated by others, then that makes me wrong? No. I am entitled to a different opinion just like you are. I clearly have a different worldview than a lot in here, and that's okay. It takes different people and views to make the world work. It would be a boring life if we all thought the same way.

WWE is trying to work out a settlement to prevent him from talking. That's preemptive damage control. Clearly they know he might say something.

Also, in a sports entertainment business that entertains fighting and feuding it's ridiculous to promote Ba* anyway. It's hypocritical.

I think the point is that is a toxic environment and should change.

I personally didn't say you couldn't have your own opinion. I simply provides actual facts that opposed some of the points you made. Those facts paint a different picture as to how things went down.

JBL is a **** period. If this were some isolated situation then sure go ahead and suggest maybe Mauro is sensitive. But he is a repeated offender. And what's happening here is all those stories that guys have shared in their books that you can go pull up and read, people aren't looking at as just funny ribs. People's opinions on these matters have evolved and matured. Especially when the newest potential victim is someone who suffers from Bipolar Depression. It isn't fair to just say walk away. That's BS.

Let's get back to the actual wrestling.

Who do you feel has been the most overlooked wrestler of the Attitude Era in terms of what they accomplished versus what it would seem their ceiling should have been?

My vote goes to Billy Gunn. Athletically gifted. Great look. Could talk. Won KotR, brief feud with The Rock, numerous tag titles, IC champ, Hardcore champ.

It's surprising to me he never held a world title. Though the ***-ness gimmick may have limited him.

Any work environment is going to have a level of toxicity. That's life.

I'm not saying it's right or wrong. I'm saying that's just how the world is.

right but people shouldn't try to change it by speaking up? this is like saying "oh education has always been ****** in the poor neighborhoods, that's just how the world is" and then not doing anything to try to change it. if you see something bad in the world you should just move on, because that's how the world is?

What's everyone all time favorite wrestling PPV? I'm curious to see.

I gotta go with HeatWave 98..It was a very good card from top to bottom, had crazy high spots/action/violence, and I was there in person..All that, for me, adds up to my favorite ppv..

that's right around when I realized ECW was more than just hardcore chair shots and barbed wire. dove into their back catalog and saw classics from Jericho, mysterio, eddie, dean, etc. then stuck around for jerry lynn, RVD, Lance Storm, Shane Douglas etc. got to go to their final ppv ever too. ECW had so much great actual wrestling, including styles from mexico, japan, etc, buried under a face of stupid hardcore violence.

I'll be the first person to say that the culture today has made sissies out of most people in our country, and those people need to learn how to have thicker skin, but to say to a man with a well documented mental illness to "toughen up" or "brush it off" is just asinine..

It's not like Mauro is one of these little snowflake wimps that whines and cries over ever tiny little thing that doesn't go his way..He's a man that has a medically diagnosed illness that tries his best everyday to cope with it..And for JBL to bully this guy is a flat out *** hole thing to do..And what's worse is JBL knew about Mauro's issues and did it anyway..That's taking it beyond bullying or "weeding out" the weak people (which JBL has said is why he does what he does)..IMO it's equal to assault..

ECW is the most influential promotion of the last 25 years..It kills me they don't get more credit for what they brought to the fans in terms of different wrestling styles, promo styles, and angles..Without ECW you wouldn't have the Attitude Era, hardcore matches, "shoot" style/more realistic promos, Lucha Libre, and Cruiserweights..

My favorite worker of that era. Had a solid, diverse offense for his size. Could work with competitors of any size. Could sell his *** off. All I remember is Rock ethering him and that was that.

I agree with this.

A lot of people just saw the hardcore stuff and thought it was only that. They had more realistic characters, storylines, and in-ring work that wasn't being featured in the US anywhere else at the time. I don't want to say that they were ahead of their time, because what they did in their bingo hall changed the rest of the wrestling landscape forever.

you can't really blame anyone for not wanting to speak out, were talking about a company(a industry really) known for being petty and burying employees for no reason.

Keep all of this in mind before you start to whine the next time someone in this thread takes a shot at one of your opinions

I knew most would answer WM (X7 especially) as their fave all time PPVs but that has already been discussed leading up to WM33. But im curious what's a WWE non-wrestlemania PPV that has replay value you'd recommend to a casual fan? Just based off of the quality of the matches top to bottom?

Summerslam 2000 immediately comes to mind for me.
