Best 3 Album Run In Rap History???

Murs had a good run in the mid 2000s

2004 - Murs 3:16 the 9th Edition
2005 - Felt 2
2006 - Murray's Revenge

Murs was cold around that time. He had stuff I liked after that, but he also started making too much stuff for tumblr fan fiction writing folks, so I couldn't mess with him much

sales back then were tracked on units shipped based on preorders of retailers before soundscan.

that lil mom & pop's orders were calculated at da time of distribution, not at da point of sale back then.

hence some people "shipped gold, shipped Platinum, etc."

Tracked by who?

and who were these artist shipping gold and platinum back then?

-RIAA

Prior to Nielsen SoundScan, RIAA certification was the only audited and verifiable system for tracking music sales in the U.S.; it is still the only system capable of tracking 100% of sales (albeit as shipments less returns, not actual sales like Nielsen SoundScan).[citation needed] This system has allowed, at times, for record labels to promote an album as Gold or Platinum simply based on large shipments. For instance, in 1978 the Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band soundtrack shipped platinum but was a sales bust, with two million returns.[8] Similarly, all four solo albums by the members of Kiss simultaneously shipped Platinum that same year but did not reach the top 20 of the Billboard 200 album chart.

da Source would regularly run "congratulations_____ for shipping Platinum" ads from bad boy or Def Jam.

That doesn't go against anything I said or help you at all.

mom and pops still didn't have soundscan, and soundscan didn't come about until the early 90's

and numbers were still based around what labels reported, and labels often under reported album sales....why...because that's less money they have to pay the artist or can claim against their recoupment

what you're saying doesn't negate how RIAA recorded their #'s

Crazy, I listened to IWW as a child, but couldnt get into it as an adult. Might have to revisit. Illmatic is probably in my top 15 albums any genre.

I can dig tribe and most of their sounds influence mine, but I never was a heavy fan. I liked a lot jams tho. Also enjoyed th album last year.

BONE might be my fave group, but they fell off once the solo albums dropped. Had a couple more hits and are back on tour heavy together. Dopeness.

J****, ten years ago I wouldve thought he had the cleanest run with BP1-BA. But BP2 couldve been trimmed. Still probably got the top run tho.

Em had a solid run too with the first 3 major albums. It was new, shocking, technical, fun, and passionate. He's a top contender also.

Kast, i lowkey never got into ATLiens much but Aquemini is in my top 5 tho. Listened to that album afterschool in 6th grade all the time. I also used to go to sleep listening to that Stankonia. So that holds a special spot for me.

Cube and Quik also dropped some dope consecutive albums. But I only find myself jamming to some of the songs now as an adult. A lot gets skipped but wouldnt have maybe 10 years back.

Which brings me to my last two contenders: Kenny and KanYe.

Yeezy is likely my favorite artist after MJ. Even with that, I didnt initially dig CD. I got in the habit of throwing it on before school in the morning and it grew on me. LR came out the summer i graduated high school so it was a part of that milestone. Sonically an amazing album with fun, serious, swagger and dope lyrics. Graduation, though. The first time I listened to the album with earbuds on a flight, it blew my mind how much instrumentation was in Good Life. It still gives me the feel of when I first heard it. I liked the whole damn album eventhough DHG took time for me to get into. The album is sonically pleasing. He switched up his drums and added some electronic samples, hit some spaced out sounds and clean mixing. Man its poasibly my fave from KanYe, but Twisted Dark Fantasy is probably his best work. Yeezus was also addictive as hell for me. Pablo, eventhough I just listened to it today, is my least fave album.

Now this guy Kendrick has totally set the bar for newer artists as to how hard you need to go passionately , how far you need to push that creativity. I initially kept putting him off, trying not to give into hype. I finally heard Good Kid and was completely blown away by his artstry. Made me cop Sect. 80 and it had the same effect on me. Then Butterfly dropped and I was amazed at the concepts he pulled out the brain again. So I'm probably gonna have to give the title to Kendrick.

Ive been so inspired by him, Earl Sweatshirt, MadLib, DOOM and Tyler these last few years as a song writer/ lyricist.trips me out that Kendrick lived about 8 mins away from me and he blew up like this. Just makes me want that same thing.

Trips me out even more because I just got my music on Pandora and my station plays songs right out of my collection. Nothing matches that feeling of streaming a song I produced and wrote followed up by a song from one of the guys mentioned above.

My bad, I went off but damn do I love some hip hop man.

Great debates like this is what makes me love NT man. Yall have a good weekend.

MC Eiht got/had a dope run. We Come Strapped , Death Threatz, Section 8

Even though Thug Life Volume 1 was a compilation with Tupac,Mopreme,Syke,Strech,Rated R,Machadoshis.Thats when Pac started to peak. That album is very underrated. The majority werent really on S4MN that hard (his first album). So it took Pac a little time to peak.Thug Life,MATW,AEOM,Makavali was a good run.Outkast first 3 albums where undeniable. They where comfortable with there craft from the jump.So they peaked from the beginning.

I would say Dre.But his albums where glorified compilations from the best artist he found.Dre got alot of credit from to many known and not known artist. To even be considered. The Chronic was a Snoop and DPG compilation. With Dre,Daz,Warren G behind the boards.Samething with Chronic 2001.DPG,Scott Stortch,Eminem.Imagine if he gets Kendrick before anyone hears him. Then he gets the best songs out of him for his own album.Thats all Dre was doing back then.He was doing what Khaled does.Only difference is.Is that he could spit.

Em started out with a good 3 with Dre.He did have a underground album before that.It was average to me.Ugk started out Ok.But they peaked with Ridin Dirty.I would put them in the mix.But Pimp C getting locked up.Messed up the 4-5 classic album run they shouldve had.Ridin Dirty,Dirty Money where classics.Pimp got locked up for 4 years. At the height of the Houston Tx rap music surge.Imagine the 2 albums they couldve squeezed out during that Texas mixtape fase. That was the wrong time to be locked up.

Big only had 2 great albums. He defenately wouldve been on the list if lives a little longer. He peaked out of the gate.Nas and Jay are legends. But 3 consecutive albums are always debatable with them. They do have classics though.Bone is on the list. They first 3 are classics. The first album was short. But it was so ground-breaking and different at the time. That its a classic. After Art Of was there 3rd and last classic. They peaked out of the gate.

Kendrick is debatable with TPAB.But hes in there.Ross and Wayne are incredible also. They just dont have 3 all time great consecutive albums.

Dont get me wrong.Getto Boys,Scarface,Wu-Tang (2 classics),Goodie mobb (2 classics).Im givin props to the legends.Because these artists are all legendary and have classic albums. But were talking 3 consecutive classics.
