NY State just passed a law providing tuition free public College

Great move. Saw folks disliking this on another forum, I don't know how. Just another way of the United States focusing on the poor as the cause of their ills.

well if you're from da school of thought that part of a college degree's appeal is its exclusiveness then this all but confirms that an associate degree is just 13th & 14th grade & a bachelors is da new 2 year degree respectively.

it also diminishes da racket da private for college schools got going on.

on da personal plus side that i like? its a backdoor to once again earn potential college degrees in NYS jail so when da scammers & hustlers that i know come home, they won't be sooooo inclined to jump back in that fast life  :pimp:

Can I get reimbursed for the SUNY tuition I paid?
this

3. Tuition and Fees Deduction

Up to $4,000 Tax Deduction Per Return

The tuition and fees deduction allows you to take up to $4,000 off your taxable income per year. You can deduct tuition, fees, and expenses required to be paid to qualified educational institutions as a condition of enrollment. You do not have to itemize your deductions to receive this benefit. The expenses must be paid for you, your spouse, or your dependents. There is no limit on how many years you can take this deduction.

Your MAGI must be $80,000 or less if single or head of household, and $160,000 or less if married filing jointly. You cannot take this deduction if you are filing as married filing separately or if you can be claimed as a dependent on someone else’s return.
You are limited to a deduction of $4,000, even if you have multiple students in the family.
This deduction can be valuable if you’re unable to take the Lifetime Learning Credit because your income is too high.
The academic period expenses are claimed for must have commenced during the same tax year or within the first three months of the following year.

Yea Privates like NYU will always get their enrollment. This threatens the less well-known privates who are often overpriced diploma mills that oop out degrees to students that aren't worth the paper they're printed on. This may also force some privates to decrease tuition and lower admission standards. Big Win for students they now have more options. We now need loan forgiveness.

Just read up on this, this is great and should help people out tremendously. I hope that the federal grants are allocated in a way to where they go to non-tuition expenses so that people could really utilize this. Crazy how people are so up in arms about this but don't bat a lash out corporate welfare and the rich getting richer.

@WorldGoneMad Only qualifies for SUNY and CUNY schools.

Graduated in 2013. Definitely a diverse campus.
NYU is private tho.
Welp.
Still NYU 2018 though. :pimp:
