Could the C's package a deal to the Pacers (for Paul George) without having to give up the #1 overall? Obviously IT would be going to Indy, but what else could they throw in?

Probably but seeing as he's going to bolt after next season I wouldn't risk it. They should go after Jimmy B or Melo instead.

Have we ever seen a #1 seed trade or not commit long term to their best player in the following year?

I just don't see any scenario where Boston doesn't lock IT up long term.

Don't know what seed they were but I remember Adrian dantley getting traded when he was their best player and immediately winning a chip afterward

Edit: zeke had passed him by then

If anybody has the cajones to not sign their best player who led the team to a conference finals appearance its Danny Ainge. The man said he would've traded Bird a few years before he retired while he still had value.

Bro...Paul George is not worth an MVP candidate in the prime of his career and a top 3 pick in a loaded draft. Paul George is 110% gone from Indy in the next year or two so you need to trade him now and start rebuilding. If you're the Pacers you take Fultz, Lonzo, Josh Jackson, etc and a couple of Smart, Jaylen Brown, Crowder, Olynuk, etc and run instead of some trash from the Lakers if he's just asking you to send him there to be back home.

Which is why I said WITHOUT having to give up the potentail #1 overall pick.

Guess it depends on who you're more comfortable giving the max to.

Gotta think the Wizards will be trying to make a move for Boogie. As it stands now, they wouldn't get by the Cavs and the C's have the assets right now to make their team even stronger after their eventual ECF loss. Wall/Beal are not enough...need a bonafide 3rd star on that roster to get over the hump.

JJ, you're my guy but you were hyping up Otto Pippen something fierce during the reg season. Is he no longer that 3rd option in your eyes?

Melo to the Wizards
Jimmy B to the Celtics

Sexy up the east for once

Even if the Celtics get swept in the ECF, gotta give credit to Brad Stevens. Dude is getting the most out of these guys.

Man, he fell off worse than a toupee in a wind storm after the all-star break. He's going to get the max from the Wizards, and in today's NBA that's the norm...however, the one aspect of his game that he's missing is consistency. The way the CURRENT Wizards are set up, he's the best 3rd option they have on the roster. Even with him getting the max, that won't prevent the team from moving him if the right deal came along. For all his warts, he does so many things well and he can shoot. If anyone can tell me a realistic Plan B to fill his void if the team let him walk, I'm all ears.

Danny Ainge gotta make a really tough decision next off season.

IT been getting paid chump change IT comin for the check when his contract is up. Contract year IT gonna be fun to watch next season :nthat:

Here's the thing tho, outside of Boston, who else in the league is really maxing him out?

I think Ainge might be able to get IT with a bit of a discount if other teams aren't biting.

if by some miracle the celtics make this cavs series go atleast 6 you gotta give up your draft pics and a couple young guys for paul george, jimmy butler, cousins or two of either next season

or just be content on sitting on young prospects for the next 5 years and wait til lebron retires

I think Otto could wind up taking less than the max to stay in DC, he doesn't strike me as the type to take the money and be "the man" on a terrible team like the Nets or Kings. He's no where near being a savior and doesn't have the personality to handle the pressure

Not how that works. If IT is going to take a discount, it'll be somewhere else due to the Celtics lowballing him w/anything less than a max.

After what IT has done for the franchise in recent years, he deserves a max from them.

I wouldn't give it to him, but if I'm IT? I'm expecting a max from Boston and not a cent less.

otto porter looks like if danny green fell in that toxic waste that turned melvin into the toxic avenger

Melo to the Wizards
Jimmy B to the Celtics

Bring Melo back close to his other home :pimp: ...but 4real how many years Melo got left on the deal? Would rather rock with him for a couple years than throw da big bag at Otto for a longer period
