Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

Not really a "slight"....I only point it as a slight when it comes from Budden....because often times, he presents it that way.

I wouldn't have argued this a year ago. But the ***** Super has somehow gotten bigger since Ds2. And that was what we thought was the height of his popularity.

If you wanna say Cole and Kendrick sit on a tier just above Future....that's fine and I see the argument for it. But to say Future is on the level of everybody else kind of minimizes how successful he's been.

I Think his level of celebrity/relevance/visiibility is just under Cole/Kendrick.... In line with Big Sean/Travis Scott/ Meek Mill/ 2 Chainz/ A$AP Rocky's of the world. There stars who exceed past rap, but still aren't 100% full blown superstars despite pulling off some pretty big feats on their own.

Future is slightly passed them. Asap doesn't belong

***** is known more for messing with Jenner. Bruh is done. Ferg has more relevance as far as music goes

Yeah I'm not including ASAP Rocky on any lists.

It's pretty obvious rap is not really a priority of his and was something he used as a springboard to other things.

Ehh idk i'm not the biggest Rocky fan but I think his brand is still up there.

Seem like he kinda took a backseat to work on Carti

One of those times Joe is just wrong. Future was on SNL by himself doing March Madness.

Drake is the only current megastar in hip hop. After that it's Kendrick, Future, 2Chainz, Cole with Chance moving up.

Kendrick & Cole again are on a different plateau then future. As far as stardom goes it's

Drake, Ye, Jay, Em

Cole/Kendrick

Then everyone else. I don't see how this is too difficult to understand.

Nothing is hard to understand, we just disagree.

this ain't the Hottest MC list we're discussing here, the conversation were hiphop artist and there stardom/ brand/ visibility

being a star encompasses more than Music, he hasn't dropped a solo project in two years, yet he's just as known and seen as much as anyone on that list. Not to mention that his influence on the entire aesthetic of the rap world today, he still gets big features, and Damn near every one of these new up and comers (Yachty, Uzi, Carti etc etc) associates themselves with A$AP.

So when discussing things like stardom, constantly being in the mix with other Top celebs keep your profile up, Being all over magazines & billboards add to that, Still doing worldwide tours/shows adds to that. Having a brand that is constantly being repped in hiphop culture also adds to that. I don't even think him being a star is debatable, the fact that he drops so lil music (compared to the new wave of rappers) and can still do all the same venues, get giant endorsements, and still be HIGHLY visible in the culture speaks to the stardom actually.

Rocky is a weirdo fashion/celebrity dude right now. Can't remember the last time I heard somebody talk about him as far as music.

Well in this breakdown, Kendrick/Cole are superstars.......... and everyone else is a level below... Rocky is CLEARLY on that level.

Exactly. Being in the mix of things mean little. He's made friends and the up and comings look up to him. Music is still the number one indicator in determining where you stand. Nobody is talking about his music. In order to be a superstar, you musical reach has to be there. He isn't going plat in a weak like Kendrick or Cole. And yeah sales do matter when it comes to your standing in hip hop. His fashion is what's keeping him afloat and thats what makes him a star. He has nothing out of that. Kendrick and Cole is out of his league. He's just staying afloat.

Again i stated he's on the level below Kendrick & Cole, along with everyone else i listed. Also in terms of being a star/ exposure music isn't the biggest indicator. In truthfulness Logic is selling/streaming just as much if not more than most of those guys i put on that list. He focuses on the music and the music only, which works for him. NOBODY is gonna say that he's a star, because he doesn't reach outside of the music. Rocky does enough musically between albums with A$AP Mob, Features, Touring, working with new acts to simply keep his face out there. when you start looking outside of music and how relevant he is in hiphop/pop culture i don't know how anyone would say he isn't in a star category along with those other 4-5 i named.

Being a star is literally about visibility and having influence & recognition in several different crowds. He embodies that.

Oh I didn't see where you said he was below. I can agree with that he's below them.

I know Brooklyn has done a 180 over the years but is Nebraska really from BK or did she move to BK like the rest of the nerds over the last few years and claim BK? Either way, she's the perfect representation of what BK is today. SMMFH

and why she keep saying coooomplex

To make fun of the way Joe says it when he's whining. I don't remember him ever actually sounding like that though

If u listen to Joe's podcast then u know this aint new for him. He'll argue something, then bring up a point to support his argument, and when someone challenges his point he'll dance around it. Dude was really feelin his argument skills when he said that SNL aint callin Future. Then when he heard that he was wrong he changed his argument to Future not getting called to perform the Suberbowl. Maaan aint NOBODY but Katy Perry, Lady Gaga or Beyonce gettin called to do the ******* superbowl. Guy is dumb as hell

He didn't want to admit his L in that argument. But I agree with everything else he said about him

funny thing is I could see future doing the superbowl

everybody in the NFL listening to Future before the game

Rocky is also big over in Europe due to the music and the Fashion skeez. His music is isn't really out there bumping on the radio here, but if you hit up youtube and even over into other countries/ check out foreign radio stations you'll still here his tunes on rotation. i.e that Mura Masa tune that he's featured on.
