Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

Drake and Kanye are definitely causing pandemonium anywhere they go
We must have a different idea of pandemonium lol.

To me a bunch of people taking pictures of you for Snapchat and asking for autographs ain't on the same level as when Mike would shut down entire streets or have grown men and women passing out and fainting. Drake has come to my city before to a school and while it was an event to us, it didn't shut down traffic and people weren't crying like he was larger than life. It was like cool that's Drake.

Drake's appeal is his win streak and the consistency and skill with which he executes, not him being actually charismatic or an enigmatic star.

flawless career???
not sure if srs
He had the classic debut, he's been virtually a pop culture icon for his entire tenure, had the hits with Pharrell, has the cookout classics w Dre and DR, unique uncopyable style, and most people would put him in top _ discussions.

Maybe I missed something. Even if you say BC Treatment was his last hot joint (and tbh Snoop kinda gives you the same **** everytime so IDK what would make Neva Left or something that much worse than BC Treatment, I think he's just old and wrinkly and the gimmick just doesn't work the same as when he had the different hairstyles everytime you saw him and had the ******* and pimp vibe going or before that, his aura he had with Death Row), 14-15 years is still a great run.

Also, can't remember when I remember looking at something Snoop did like it was corny or out of character.

Also he doesn't get credit for just how much of a crossplatform star he was. He's been in the first 3-5 names any American regardless of age, race, class, finances, etc. would think of when it came to rap for the past 20 years.

I don't think the level that y'all are trying to put Drake/Cole/Kendrick on even exists.

Nobody in rap is shutting down American malls in 2017. Nobody is that big.

Even saying that for Em...in 2017 who is gonna chase around Eminem lol. The 2017 graduating class were sperm eggs or barely walking and talking when SSLP  came out.

Future/Cole/Kendrick/Drake could go to various places where they might get approached for a picture or autograph, and even Uzi might have people chasing him at festivals, but nobody in the rap game is causing Michael Jackson type pandemonium, people passing out and ****

so I don't understand how this argument makes Future such lower than Cole/Kendrick/Drake. Like Rico Love said on The breakfast club...the lean and perc heads who need to hear cole and kendrick's message  don't like the presentation, which is where Future comes in.

Future/Cole/Kendrick/Drake are the biggest acts today and there is no huge disparency between Future and the other three.

Drake and Kanye are definitely causing pandemonium anywhere they go

People losing their mind if they saw Em or Drake out somewhere. Young and older white people LOVE Em. On top of that the world is more than the 2017 graduating class.

I said that specifically because <20 year olds are usually the type to be chasing entertainers around.

I can't imagine someone older than 25 chasing any celebrity around.

This is the scene in East Village...just 30 minutes after Kanye West tried to announce a surprise block party

I don't know how many people fainted or cried...but if this isn't pandemonium then what is? The freaking mayor had to get Kanye on the phone after this.

I feel what you're saying but saying Kanye can get a couple hundred/couple thousand people on the street where he's about to do a virtual free show w GOOD is not the same as saying that's gonna happen if Kanye goes to the mall. We see random pics of Kanye and Kim at restaurants, movies, shops,  etc. all the time without chaos.

To tie it back to the original point of me bringing this up, if Future goes on Twitter and announces a free show or "block party" in a Lenox Square or American Deli parking lot the same **** is gonna happen.

Kanye's definitely a bigger star than Future though.

Drake and Kanye can just casually walk around the mall? What world are you living in? Them having security and being able to move around at lowkey places doesn't take away from their megastar status lmao

I'm from Detroit and Drake is definitely shutting the city down before Big Sean does if he's walking around the mall or downtown.

I'm talking about the pics like these we see every week of them at malls, movies and restaurants.

People look and take pics but nobody has that aura like I can't believe I'm on earth as the same time as this person like Mike. Maybe Beyonce and some boy band I'm not keeping up with but as far as rap? I can't see it for anybody. Kanye is the closest though. Everyone's too normal. Kendrick, Cole, Drake, etc. are all cariactures of everymen.
Either way Em is causing a riot if he just goes to a mall. Your white classmates love Em.
I ain't never heard no white person here play Eminem possibly from overcompensation of ******* with trap and 2008-now Lil Wayne but surprisingly I think they'd wanna see Drake or Quavo or some **** before Em at this point.

Time don't wait for nobody man. These dudes are absolutely legends but y'all also gotta remember it's been 5 years since Em put anything out. 4 for Hov. As opposed to Drake/Kendrick/Cole/Future and even Thug/Migos/etc. been making the soundtrack to ****** lives lol.

snoop is buns and has been
with the exception for half the last meal doggystyle
and few cuts from TBCT
his pimp gimmick was corny
hes also a suck and don't feel like going into detail his sucks ways
hes lazy
which is why his catalog sucks
and a true hip hop person would not name snoop 3-5 as hip hop stars
only a grandma who seen him cooking with martha stewart would
he faker than that snake
just that snake is more clever

i don't even think that real pandemonium
its just folks wanna be apart of something to say they was there
and to ig snapchat it
aint no real motivation behind their actions to really want to see him

I don't see future having the same crowd and the mayor calling him in NYC. I can see the same thing happening in ATL with Ye.

It's a difference people...

Aight, just ask them white boys how they feel about Eminem.

Snoop having a trash body of work is thread worthy itself. He has made a career of being cool.

It's cool that he reinvents his sound. From his debut to drop it like its hot to sexual seduction, and so on, but he without a doubt has the worst discography from a so called legend. He will pop out a hot single here and there but his entire body of work is trash.

When Em drops he going platinum easily. His **** could drop right now and it would happen.

i don't think he's cool
at all

In later years I find him annoying at times, especially with the reggae **** and now the gospel ****. But I like him on the show with Martha

absolutely

probably more than platinum with streaming

i dont see how anything i said would disagree w that lol

Thought you was trying to downplay his status based on his current popularity.

he plays like a caricature of himself
like all the time
i guess that annoys me
