Ask a Cop whatever.....

sounds like some of you all expect change but don't want to help make changes

What you think these marches are for? Or these panels btw activist and city/state officials? And many other forms of engagement. Citizens do their part to engage in policies but elected officials are blind to the strife of the disenfranchised. Becuase the disenfranchised probably couldn't vote for them or didn't provide them with funding, hence no one cares for them.

Cops reinforce the rhetoric of elected officials and their pockets/political ambitions. Cops are lap dogs. They don't see it. They make bs arrest to appease their higher up becuase those same lieutenants, cpt., majors etc get pressured by mayors and governors to keep crime down through force and/or false pretenses.

Cops can't be truly trusted if they are lead by corrupt leaders.

Reading your post, especially the comment about cops being lap dogs made me think of this part from this book i read called "Shantaram". Really stuck with me...

"The world is run by one million evil men, ten million stupid men, and a hundred million cowards. The evil men are the power–the rich men, and the politicians, and the fanatics of religion–whose decisions rule the world, and set it on its course of greed and destruction. There are only one million of them, the truly evil men, in the whole world. The very rich and the very powerful, whose decisions really count–they only number one million.

The stupid men, who number ten million, are the soldiers and policemen who enforce the rule of the evil men. They are the standing armies of twelve key countries, and the police forces of those and twenty more. In total, there are only ten million of them with any real power or consequence. They are often brave, I’m sure, but they are stupid, too, because they give their lives for governments and causes that use their flesh and blood as mere chess pieces. Those governments always betray them or let them down or abandon them, in the long run. Nations neglect no men more shamefully than the heroes of their wars.

And the hundred million cowards, they are the bureaucrats and paper shufflers and pen-pushers who permit the rule of the evil men, and look the other way. They are the head of this department, and the secretary of that committee, and the president of the other association. They are managers, and officials, and mayors, and officers of the court. They always defend themselves by saying that they are just following orders, or just doing their job, and it’s nothing personal, and if they don’t do it, someone else surely will. They are the hundred million cowards who know what is going on, but say nothing, while they sign the paper that puts one man before a firing squad, or condemns one million men to the slower death of a famine.

So, that’s it. The world is run by one million evil men, ten million stupid men, and a hundred million cowards. The rest of us, all six billion of us, do pretty much what we are told!"

would you consider this excessive force?

didnt even read him his rights

Most dangerous I've been in have been physical fights. One time a kid called in on his dad because he was scared of him saying his dad was acting crazy and may be using drugs. His dad came out of his bedroom naked and when I asked "whats going on" he swung and tried to take my flashlight and I got knocked into a bedroom. Im 5'10" 185lbs and he was like 6'2" 250lbs. Luckily my partner was there (because we always go to radio calls with two people). Long story short the guy got tased, gets up, runs out of the house, then when they find him outside he rushed the other officers and everybody just piled on him. I've been to calls with weapons but luckily the person either gave up or we used a beanbag or a dog.

What was the race of the perp?

Do you meet your fellow 12 at a bar after your shift?

1. I wasn't

2. OC. More often than not its when people are acting up in the back seat and kicking windows. I've actually never struck anybody with my baton.

In the academy my Sargent said he tries to draw a smiley face on the perp with his OC. I Know for a fact he drew a couple on me during qualifications. You can never have too many handcuffs.

do you believe there are crooked cops out there..i'm talking like taking drugs from criminals, letting them go, then taking those drugs to a friend to have. If so, how illegal is it and what would happen to the cop if he/she was caught?

Yeah I do believe there are. It is very illegal and they would be fired if caught

Good one OP, this one made my night.

What's with the punisher blue line logo? Why do cops act like their jobs are more dangerous than it is? How often do you pull your gun out on people?

It's a take on the Blue Lives Matter flag.

Am I the only one who feels that OP's avy is all we need to know about the guy?

nt tbl nt tbl this thread is much appreciated. A thanks is in order to you and your fellow officers who do right by the law and simply look to enforce it and not abuse power. I have a bunch of friends who are cops so I totally understand your perspective and idea of "getting home to your family".

Much appreciated. Thanks!

How do you feel about groups like Black Lives Matter and the protests over police shootings?

I support groups like Black Lives Matter. I get it and understand the messsge. But you also have people who don't understand the message screaming Black Lives Matter and ruining it for others. Thinking they're helping the cause but are just hurting it. I personally feel like there are a bunch of different BLM movements that kind of take away from the original one if that makes sense. And protests are fine as long as they're organized and peaceful. When people start fighting and throwing **** it overshadows the protest. Or when vandalism occurs and people start breaking and stealing stuff. Like really how is that helping anything? Or when they try to shut down freeways and cause everybody to be late to wherever they need to be. I feel stuff like that does no good.

How strong is your union? Can bad cops be fired for just cause? It seems like in any other non union profession (or in right to work states), you can be fired for anything. Why can't they just fire a trigger happy cop who is staining the reputation of your department? Even if its deemed justified, the black eye seems like enough to part ways with the bad apple.

Do you get along with your bosses? With that, if they were to fire a "bad cop", it seems like the brotherhood is strong enough to protest in some way and cause a huge hassle. It feels like thats why 99% of these police shootings never convict the cops of wrong doing.

Do you have monthly quotas? If there was no crime, would you have a job (hence some sort of creating the hostility)? Do you get awards or bonuses based on arrest numbers or convictions that go through?

Is there a lot of turn around in employment (ie transfers/retirees or firings)?

The availability of non stop OT irks me. I know many in the medical field (who are also state/county funded). Our hard earned tax dollars shouldnt go towards paying people too much.

Last question, in a lot of these police shootings lately, there have been 6 or so officers on the scene, and only one actually firing their weapon. Would you stop a co worker from doing something stupid? Even with police beatings of civilians, its literally always just 1 bad apple and 6-7 just stand around. Have you ever seen anyone intervene (higher up boss maybe). The union makes cops feel invicible. Thanks for answering. Things will never change though. There is never liability for the bad apples.

1. I pay into my union really for the legal representation should I ever need it. They are there for the officers but it is a case by case basis. If you need representation, they'll review your case first then decide whether they'll help you or not. If a cop is involved in a bad shoot I cant see the union backing them. I agree that if your act is so blatant and egregious that even the union wont touch it then that officer should be fired, but I dont make that decision of course.

2. I get along fine with my bosses. If they were to fire someone for some shady business I don't think anybody would think twice about it. Absolutely theres a unity and brotherhood in law enforcement but we can still say when wrong is wrong. Again, sprsking for myself and those I work with.

3. No monthly quotas. Its actually against policy to implement a quota. No if there was no crime I wouldn't have a job. I'd rather live in a world of no crime though. EASILY. I'd find a job/career doing something else and be completely happy. No awards that I've heard of on a numbers basis.

4. There is a lot of turnaround. Mainly people switching departments for pay/benefits.

5. OT isn't necessarily out there and available to anybody anytime. For patrol, we have a certain amount of people we "should" be hitting the field with and that number is different depending on what shift and division you're working. Lets say its 10 and 2 people called in sick or are on vacation. Then that opens up two OT spots if any other officers can fill in those spots. We will still go out of course if we are below that number, we will just cut down on being proactive. Then we also have special events too where OT is available for like sporting events or fairs or stuff like that.

6. I absolutely will stop a another cop from doing something stupid. They're actions will have effects on me and the rest of the department so yeah I would stop em. I've never been put in that situation though.

It's also "a chapter-based national organization working for the validity of Black life" in the website's own words, but I guess your opinion overrides that.

Ok, who is the leader or heads of this organization?

I will wait.....
Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and Opal Tometi head the organization. There are also chapter leaders.

Any more brain-busters?
