We all know the SWS/conservative talking point. Black folks are lazy welfare hoggers, don't want to put in a hard days work, pull yourself by your bootstraps, yada yada.

Washington post discovers most rural white folks go on "disability"
Across large swaths of the country, disability has become a force that has reshaped scores of mostly white, almost exclusively rural communities, where as many as one-third of working-age adults live on monthly disability checks, according to a Washington Post analysis of Social Security Administration statistics.
Let the Washington Post tell it, these "poor people" have lost all hope, can't find jobs, no one wants to hire them, getting old, etc. Forced to go on disability to make ends meet.

Been had knew this from working in insurance and the medical device industry.

In 2015, according to PSZ, the richest 1 percent of people in America received 20.2 percent of all the income in the nation. Ten points of that 20.2 percent came from equity income, net interest, housing rents, and the capital component of mixed income. Which is to say, 10 percent of all national income is paid out to the 1 percent as capital income. Let me reiterate: one in ten dollars of income produced in this country is paid out to the richest 1 percent without them having to work for it.
But people who get $80/day in welfare benefits are lazy

White folks working the system but pushing the agenda on us...been going on since this country started

I have a friend whose whole family is flourishing of the disability ssi hustle. My friend gets a check to take care of his "disabled" brother. The funny thing is that his family votes republican. He's white btw

There's a difference in passive income from investments to being lazy. Saying they don't work for it is somewhat misleading.

Not sure what your are getting at here capital income is using your money ie investments etc to make money.

The other part of your post is what i was referring to. Not sure where that other quote was from.

It's not really about laziness. It's about a certain demographic of people who have been able to flourish in this country, watch their $ switch digits whilst not really working for it per se; and then all of it trickling down to their children while another demographic never had the same opportunities and have been systematically and cyclically f****d.

You think it's okay that that the top 1% receive 10% of the income in this country in equity alone?

I think the problem is there is a stigma out there when it comes to social security disability. Most people don't know what they're talking about when they actually talk about it. Pete interchangeably use ssi and ssdi. Ssi, or supplemental security income, is in fact a welfare program. Ssdi or social security disability is not. It is fundamentaly an insurance program. So you can be on welfare or an insurance program that both administer disability benefits. We can go back and forth all day about what is and isn't fair but bottom line is you have to have worked 5 of the last 10 years (depending on age) to become entitled for ssdi which is called currently insured. In any case many people are turning to their social security disability when they're done working when they stopped working due to retirement and not a disability. The state agency that says their disabled allows it and the rules to become disabled need to change if they want this to stop. The criteria used is too east to get around. Anyways, I work for ssa and we pay way too many benefits for people who just want more money in a system that allows them to do it

Good read. Follows a few families who live on $2 a day person or less in different areas (Chicago, Cleveland, Mississippi Delta and Appalachia). Also talks about the welfare reform of 96 and the effects its had on families and esp children.

Reminds me of when Morgan Spurlock had that 30 Days show on FX and tried surviving with his girl, niece and nephew on minimum wage. Getting food at the dollar store, going to the library to use their computers, working dawn until dusk, etc

Urging people to get off public assistance is one of the toughest jobs. Struggle sees no color.

Even back in 2004 there were more whites on welfare and other forms of disability than any other races it's really nothing new. And those numbers have skyrocketed even more since the recession.

The information has been out there. They just don't broadcast it publicly or muffle that part out which is in their interest to get their constituants riled up.
