Big Baller Brand Thread- Lonzo Ball's first sneaker the ZO2! UNDEFEATED NEVA LOSST!!

I dont understand the 6 month waiting period. Feel like if they were priced at 200 kids will eat them up. 500 could of atleast gave you a shirt, sweatpants and a headband with the shoes.

He's probably using the pre-order money to produce the shoes. Hence the long wait.

I will place my order once I get more detail on sizing since there is a no return policy

the pg1 is 110$ and looks way better than this. Does anyone believe lonzo will be better than pg? hell is lonzo even going to be the best player in this years draft!? smh

You know what's crazy, whether intentional or not, he's already won. For every one of you laughing and saying "these would move at 90-120usd, but hes outta his mind with the 495 price tag", he has already built that brand value in your mind. Now, for a product that for all intents and purposes in quality or cost shouldnt even be in the same class or conversation as other products in the same price tier, all of a sudden is placed there because of its original absurd price point.

Imagine if BBB came out with a 95usd retail kick:

1. no publicity
2. No hype
3. Hits outlet at 30usd and dies out

i view his brand below others that try to represent the same image. like TMT, Mayweather has the record and image to represent what TMT is. BBB on the other hand represents a potential career. There's not much backing up the name and image being presented.

I'm out at any price point.

The shoes are horrible, even at Starbury prices I wouldn't cop. Part of me hopes adidas sues them for the fake boost (like they did with Sketchers) and the shoes never even make it to production.

i wish them luck at the end of the day

his dad makes it hard for people to feel that same way tho

talking about you must not be a big baller if you not buying these lol

Hahaha, the comparison to the pg shoe shows just how little you understand the financial part in the grand scheme of things

The more I think about this, the more brilliant I think it is.

  • Price point is so excessive that it grabs attention.
  • Do a pre-order with a no return or exchange policy so there's very minimal exposure to loss.
  • Once you up the market perception of your brand and build hype/attention with what ends up being your super exclusive offering (if I were them I would've individually numbered every one of these things), make something for the mass market.
  • If the initial offering doesn't work out and you think the brand doesn't have legs, you go to Nike, Adidas, or whoever and get your regular endorsement money.

The worst case scenario here is that Lonzo tanks his rookie year and flames out after his rookie contract. At that point, Lonzo's made about $10 million after tax from his NBA contract, and maybe missed out on $5 million from the sneaker endorsement contract. Considering the potential upside of building a new, successful independent company, that worst-case scenario isn't so bad.

Missing out on 5 million isn't so bad?

When you've got $10 million after tax banked, no, it's not unless you're reckless with your investments and spending. Obviously having $5 million is better than not having it, but the difference in the marginal value of living off of $10 million versus $15 million isn't so large that it's necessarily worth foregoing the upside of building your own brand if you've got the type of opportunity that the Ball family does.
