In light of recent controversy surrounding the use of the N-word by caucasian, non-black speakers, I bring the question to my fellow NTers....

Who can say it?

Blacks only

If you have a black friend

P.O.M.E. non blacks?

Latinos (usually get a pass because @ninjahood  is black)

I am a black man.

If I don't say it to you, don't say it to me.

I can't control what you do on the Innanets or among others.

Inb4 "why don't black people stop saying it?"... Ignoring all nuance.

I'm Dominican raised in NYC around Dominicans and blacks alike (although Dominicans are black ) and grew up saying it. Blacks friends let me rock but in college I spoke to this woke black homie and he put me on game on how not all black people rock with it. So I chilled. Try to never say it.

I put it like this, it's culturally ambiguous therefore you should be careful who you says it around. Be mindful, always.

Well said. Very well said.

As a white dude, my perspective is that white folks shouldn't use the word in any form under any circumstances. Period.

Other than that, my opinions on who should or shouldn't use the word are ultimately irrelevant, as it's not really my issue to have an opinion about.

Middle eastern here. Grew up around minorities, mainly black from the Caribbean and East Africa. Also lived in a predominantly black town in VA for several years.

I say that to say this... I say it with my friends that im cool with. They say it to me and have told me they dont take offense to me saying it. That being said, it's not every other word out my mouth.

Also it's not like ill say it or use it when speaking to someone i dont know or am not cool with like that. The folks i say it around, majority ive grown up with, gone thru good and bad times with so they know its not on some racist ish.

Insert Mexican and that's me.

I'm old now so I've stopped using it; however, I only used it in my circle(s), never around family or well that's it...I got one Mexican friend and he grew up the same way.

No and no, in my eyes. But I defer to my black counterparts when it comes to those dynamics.

If I hear a white person say it, though, I'm going to be the one to say something off GP. Even if I'm with my guys and they don't care, they know I care and ain't going

If you grew up around black people saying it, than I can't blame you. But, personally never developed the habit.

Same with me. I ask my Mexican students why they feel so comfortable saying it at school and in their case...they co-exist with blacks but wouldn't say they're friendly.

I feel you. I never used it as a habit. I was more of the "cuz" ignorant than the "n" ignorant.

depends if you're referring to the one that ends in "er" or the one that ends in "a".

in my opinion, they are 2 totally different meanings.
