Watches are the next fad?

Actually Rolex holds their value very well, the best out of the  mid-high tier luxury watch brands.

If you buy a Submariner new for $7,500 at an Authorized Dealer, wear the watch, decide you want to sell it next week, I highly doubt you will get back your money. The least you would lose is $1,000.

Now if you buy pre-owned or used and keep in in the same condition you had bought it, then yes, you won't lose money. If bought new, you will definitely lose money if you decide to sell it unless it's years down the road.

But yes, Rolex and Patek Philippe are the only two watch brands to hold their value.

Can't go wrong with a Rolex if you plan on reselling your watch at a later point. They maintain their value very well. Unless you own some rare and/or old model in stellar condition it's not an investment as you will lose some money.

I'd also like to point out that the watch brand Seiko is often overlooked. Great craftsmanship across the board with a wide variety of pricepoints. I always recommend Seiko and Tissot to people looking for an under $300 watch.

not going to work, as mentioned, price will be a barrier

plus watch collectors are real picky, most won't just buy from sellers they do not know or have little history, they prefer to buy from real reputable sellers or authorized dealers

many re-sellers also sell shoes for a profit while most watch sellers are just trying to move a piece to get a new one and those with big stock tend to sit on them for a while because $15k-$30k watches just do not have that many buyers so no way many sneaker sellers will move on to this

ABlogtoWatch makes for a good partner for this but it's still very risky unless the watches actually passes through their hands for inspection

just too many factors for this to be a "fad" like it is for sneakers

Price point is probably going to be a barrier. For most sneakers it's a couple hundred at most. A few of the rarer stuff might go into the thousands but that's a lot of the watches' starting points.
One would think so, but some people are spending hundreds each week on new Adidas or Jordan releases. That expense on sneakers could easily reach the thousands after a few months

a lot of people love to simply buy stuff and they'd rather buy something every week than once every year or 6 months

it really depends where you buy and who you sell to

there are ADs out there that will discount Subs if they can't move it (though on rare occasions but if you know the right people or just there at the right time, it happens) while other ADs refuse to even waive the tax on any steel Rolex sport watches

so in right conditions, you could actually profit from it but as I said in my previous post, you do have to be reputable to move your watches quick

now this doesn't apply to all Rolex and there are all other scenarios where it could be profitable but re-selling watches doesn't have the best turnaround if you really want to make money out of it unless you manage to snag one of those ceramic daytonas at retail and reputable enough to be able to sell it to someone with a mark up

holding value usually means it being precious metal.

you'd actually be surprised but when it comes to watches, steel versions holds value better, it's also more difficult to get a discount on them than one made with precious metal
