Went for the World Cup. Had the time of my life.
I was mostly in Sao Paulo staying with a friend but I went Rio for a few days.
My experience was abnormal since the WC was going on, but the one piece of advice is be careful with the chicks. Naive (young) dudes were getting caught up. Some bars have prostitutes in them and they are just working but dudes really thought they were feel them like that
. And I was told a story about how a dude met a girl, they went back to his hotel thinking they were about to get down but shortly after he took off his pants (he undressed first 
) she grabbed his wallet and phone and ran off.
But I guess that kind of **** could happen anywhere when messing with ratchet/surprisingly thirsty chicks.
I didnt get a chance to go back I was told there are yacht parties. You go out on a boat, bunch of boats link up, and you party out in Rio Harbor.
Anyways just don't be stupid and have fun man!

my mom told me about this...seems like the scare is mainly in expecting mothers
ive read up on it and heard about the fumblings, but carnaval is still going on and a lot of olympic athletes are undeterred by it.
definitely investing in bug repellent though

I was in Rio and Sao Paulo in 2014. Never once did I feel worried, in Rio I stayed in a hostel in the favela

As long as you dont look like a million dollars walking down the slums you should be ok... that goes for you NT'ers who dress like they're on a first date everyday..
