Possible move to Seattle...info needed

So the wife is applying for a job with a large tech firm that is based in Seattle. If she gets this job, we both decided our best option is to move out there.

Currently, we live in NOVA (prince William county) in a decent townhouse. We have 2 kids, 4 and 9, and a dog.

In short, what neighborhoods should we be looking at? Our kids would be attending public school; we'd like a commute less than 45 minutes from downtown (the shorter the better), we'd like a single family home with a decent yard (quarter acre lot or so). We'd probably rent first to get an idea of places to settle, and would like to find a neighborhood where we can rent a house for $2500 or less.

Also, need general info about Seattle; we have kids so the nightlife is low priority. We're black if that matters...

Move to renton. Youd be half hour outside of downtown and close enough that you could put your kids on Seattle public schools if you pick the right area of renton.

Renton os located right aftwr south Seattle which where most black folka live sp in turn alot live in renton but seattle area os very diverse so also you'll have alot of white, south east asian, latino and Pacific island nieghbors.

Renton has all the suburban perks like the walmart, mall ( southcenter) target and all the places associated with that and there are hospitals schools entertainment.

Agaij you really are in a place thst many consider seattle hell you could end up living on thw border of you found the right place.

Renton anyone says anything else don't got kids and ain't from seattle

Cosign on everything what Law3001 said..
The Landing area in Renton is nice too. I just came back from there from watching a movie

I'm so used to seeing jokes on reddit for anyone coming to Seattle

"Wheres the first place I should check out in Seattle?"
"3rd & Pine"

"Where's the best place to eat in Seattle?"
"3rd & pine"

"Where's the best place to shop?'
"3rd & pine"

all facts renton is on the come up. Like Law3001 said living on the border in upper rainier beach is a good option

i'd also look into beacon hill and parts of west seattle that are still affordable but pretty much everywhere in seattle has skyrocketed in the past couple years

Seattle in general is a good place to raise a family but honestly a lot is changing at a rapid pace due to all the tech stuff and not necessarily for the better imo

Beacon Hill is getting dangerous, to be honest. They're pushing people out of Rainier (Columbia City, to be exact) and they're coming up to Beacon Hill. My niece wouldn't mind walking home by herself a few years ago. Now? She'd rather get an Uber even if it's a few blocks because it's safer.

I also cosign Renton but stay away from the Walmart.

Northern Queen Anne, Magnolia

lmao at Beacon Hill/Columbia City becoming dangerous

I live in Renton, love it, it's close to everything. Wouldn't mind Newcastle, Kennydale or Bellevue either, would never actually want to live in Seattle.

My parents got poperty in beacon hill planning to moving back and turning it into a modern home to live in but now idk since the crime rate went up. I remember when I was a kid i would ride my bike from skyway to beacon durning the summer and now we can't walk a few blocks that's crazy.

Renton probably best bet if you can't afford Seattle.

Always wanted to visit Seattle...I like the rain, clouds, that mild weather n chill vibe i be hearing about But i couldnt live there cuz not enough black folk

Good luck on your move OP

its very depressing here in the Northwest dude.  always rains lol

Haha yep it's another one of those days today. Seattle is gorgeous in late spring/summer though. Like others have said, Renton sounds like a good option for you. That area has really improved drastically in the last 10 years or so.

What kind of house can I get for 400k and where?

Would like some yard space. Currently in a townhouse and would prefer a single family but not opposed to another townhouse, especially in "developing" neighborhoods.

Also, in the burbs, what is the commute to downtown like?

My brother lives in Renton, if I were to move to the PNW I'd live in that area. Traffic is crazy every time I visit, but the scenery is so beautiful.

yall serious about renton? It looks depressing every time i pass by it. You'll be in some of the worst traffic having to drive north and back south. But I guess traffic is bad all around.

Take a look at Issaquah or the Issaquah highlands. Great area for the family and very safe. House value ^ is great as that is also where Costco corporate is located.

Other cities that are nice, but homes are expensive: Bellevue, Redmond, Kirkland, Woodinville, Bothell

Renton is a good spot because theres multiple highways/roads to get to and from it. So while traffic is bad like it is everywhere, theres multiple ways to get there as opposed to straight I-5. Cosign what Law said. I would also consider Shoreline or Lynnwood. I lived in Lynnwood for 3 years and loved it. Very quiet and had all of the perks as well.

WTF Is Maple Valley?

lmao at Beacon Hill/Columbia City becoming dangerous

Gentrification is real. I live in an older building on first hill and its only a matter of time until I'm pushed out because luxury high rises are jacking rents up.

LOL. Issaquah is a nice city but commute to Seattle is terrible with the traffic you'd have to deal with. If you're working in dt seattle I wouldn't recommend anywhere on the eastside outside of Renton, Bellevue (expensive af) or Kirkland.
