What's the worst financial decision you've ever made?

Not saving money. Last year I got laid off after starting a new job. Jobless for 5 months

Job i had before that I was making decent bread. Idk how i didn't save money
Same here. Never managed to save, now I'm trying to make up lost time and save for a home.

May take a loan from one of my retirement accounts to do it. Focused too much on paying into retirement early on.

Letting two student loans go into default and one credit card go into collections after maxing it out. Absolutely destroyed my credit to the low 500's :smh:

Have since taken to steps to repair said credit and am back up to 720. Definitely learned a valuable lesson from that.

Rebuilding project cars, being a naive simp over females after High School, and not managing my needs and wants. Now 25, and I realize what an idiot I was at 18-21. :smh:

Congrats, man. I know the feeling. Never went to collections (been close a couple times

), but I've been maxed on everything for a while. My utilization has been at 99-100% for a couple of years now. Impossible to pay down. Had me at the high 500s. Anytime I'd throw money at it, I'd get a ridiculous finance charge. Real easy to be running in that hamster wheel for the rest of your life.

Paid off about 70% of my debt and my score shot up over 700.

Not many better feelings. Thinking about letting my score recover a tad more and going for an auto loan. Not sure if that'll put me in a tight spot when I try to save for a down payment, though.

Rebuilding my credit right here as well.

I made those mistakes too but I ain't eeem mad cause I am much smarter and mature now.

I disagree with the notion that student loans are a bad financial decision.

Not buying a house when I could have around 2011-2012. Listened to the wrong people who relied on my money coming into their household that I couldn't afford it out on my own. Finally bought a house this month but damn, a lot of years wasted that I could have been paying less in a mortgage on a much better home then I am in now. Also not saving when I got my first real career job in 2010. Went from minimum wage to over double that. Blew money on eating out every day and on clothes that I no longer wear for a good while until I got the mind to save. Could have went to a lot better things. Oh well I hope at least like me everyone has lived and learned from mistakes.

2015 Kia Optima Hybrid EX with every upgrade for 35k

FINALLY the Kia shows up.

/thread
I also bought a 99 Blazer for $640 that the driver door wouldn't shut. Ended up selling it a few days later for only $40 lost though after realizing it'd be more trouble than I was bout the life to deal with

 I wanna hear more about your financial decisions.

I swear that thread he made about getting rid of the kia and getting a new car had me on the floor gasping for air

easily one of the best threads of 2016
NBD. When I saw that the door didn't latch shut but he dropped the price, I figured my Dad could fix it. He fixes everything. Everything closes like it's supposed to, the part on the inside just didn't latch. It drove great in the test drive and he had put in a lot of upgrades, Altezzas, a system, 18s, and said he just replaced the transmission. So I just looped my seatbelt through the door and drove all the way back home from Moore to Lawton with no issue. Turns out it was leaking oil so the ride got progressively worse Everytime I drove and it began getting hesitant/sputtery and that was when. I was like nah, also my Dad looked at the door and that would have to be welded and I guess that's the one thing he doesn't do. Also of you try to bungee the door closed that works but when you turn right it slings open and tries to hit the car to your left. Put it on CL and had it sold in like 2 days

I have seen it since too. He welded the door like he said he would and fixed the leaking oil and gave it to his sister. She works at Big Lots. Got a pushbutton 4x4 suv for 6 bills. Only lost 40 bucks and some time on the deal

Spending student loan money on drinks at the local pub on a weekly basis.

Count me in as a victim of student loans, both federal & private

It really is no joke how student loans put you in a financial bind for a chunk of your life, especially the prime years when you are trying to better yourself. This country is ran on how good your credit is.

I work in a debt validation company that specializes in student loans (federal & private) and other unsecured debt (medical, Credit card, etc)

The people that mentioned they went to tech school,  for-profit schools (Art Institute, ITT Tech, Cordon Bleu, Univ of Phx, Ashford, Devry, etc) or campuses closing down, there are federal funding programs available for your student loans.

I deal mostly with private student loans and unsecured debt but feel free to PM me if you have questions about options for your student loans.

Went to a strip club in Philly once. Went to get ONE lap dance from this thoroughly stacked big booty blonde chick. Dude this girl was so fine I went into the sunkin place, pulling her thong to the side to rub it on me bare, kissing my neck etc etc. 10 songs later the bouncer like "that will be $200 sir". Left right after that, no mas

I disagree with the notion that student loans are a bad financial decision.

Depends on the situation.

$100k in loans for a degree that will get you an entry level job for $40-60k a year =  not a bad decision

I beg to differ. Racking up 100k in student loans for an occupation that pays you 40k - 60k a year is not a smart decision.

100k in student loan debt is only acceptable if the outcome is a professional degree with mid-career earnings well into the six figures.

Private student loans shot my credit score way the **** up...at one point I hit 823, when I paid them off it dropped to 770s...still don't understand why it went that high since it was a hefty debr

Yeah, I'm kind of in a similar situation to when you bought the car, I'd imagine. I'm looking to start really saving for a down payment on a house, not sure if I should invest in a used WRX or Evo. Only looking to spend like 15k max though, so it may be tough.
Same boat as you. Looking to spend 10-15k on a car and keep saving for a DP on property. Thinking of buying an Audi A4, S4 or a Lexus GS.

I said "entry level" pay of 40k-60k.

Buy the Lexus, if you're choosing out of those 3.  I love Audis, but after that warranty is up.... expensive af to maintain.

Yeah that's sort of what I've been thinking. I like the German engineering more, but it's tough to beat the reliability of Toyotas. I'd only get an Audi if it was eligible for an extended warranty. I'm buying used btw. But you probably already figured that out based on my budget.

Currently whipping an 03 Pathfinder I've had for 5 years that I've probably dropped an easy $5k in maintenance. No more Nissans for me.
