I live in NYC. I was in Oregon during Memorial Day Weekend. I got a speeding ticket for going 51 in a 30mph zone, $330. Anyone ever hire a lawyer to represent you out of state? Worth it or just pay the fine and move on?

I think it depends where in Oregon. Speaking generally (as the same thing happened to me once), some counties have online driver ed programs that you can take in exchange for a reduced fine, but if you got caught in a small *** town, chances are they want ALL your money. That's how some very small places raise revenue. You should contact the police dept that issued the ticket and see what your options are.

I thought the title was an out of state person.

I was gonna say plenty of times. Won't believe how many times I heard: "i'm crazy, I'm from LA" before I relenquised a quite thorough washing.. like location of origin means how strong you are, this ain't dragon ball z. [emoji]128514[/emoji][emoji]128514[/emoji][emoji]128514[/emoji]

I'm not familiar with the laws in Oregon and this is a quick Google search from my phone so the county may not be applicable to you. It's only worth it if you do a trial by declaration, last option on the page:

I would contact a local Oregon firm and inquire about it. It's a simple process. A good TBD should be no more than $300, at least that's what my friend charges. Also see if there's a money back guarantee, the good attorneys always do a policy of refunding if they can't get you off, at least a portion.

Best case, you win and it gets taken off your record and you don't pay the fee. Worst case, you pay the fee which isn't much in the first place.

From NY. Got a $300 speeding ticket in West Virginia 3 yrs ago. I wrote a heart felt letter and they dropped it.
Finesse at its finest.
