This **** is sickening, he's gotta get all the way the **** out of here. I hope more people speak out about it because this was gross. The crowd applauding and the other clown just sitting there. SMMFH

Then you read comments online and people are saying well rappers say it, why can't he say it? Racism is alive and well in this country.

I stopped entertaining his conversation 8 plus years ago when he disrespected Michael Eric Dyson on his show. Not surprised he's feeling himself this much.

I mean, ****. Efff'em. I just realized the only time I hear or see or get called that word is on the internet. Most of these hardcore holly *** racist & internet warriors are cowards and only bang online. Probably got black friends in real life. Internet/Tv/followers give people a false identity they gotta live up to and stay edgy/crazy/cool/provocative it's like a drug, fame.

I just callem ****s and shrug it off. They hate that word lol. "Triggered" is what people want.

-he's a liberal so its amazing to see how quick his own people coming for him.

You're confusing liberals for the people you defend every day

With politics there will always be some 'convenient math', 'mental gymnastics' and/or 'turning a blind eye' that takes place depending on your views.. this current group of republicans have taken that to a whole 'nother level

Which is extremely impressive considering what I've seen from Fox News crew the last almost 20 years

Tasteless and very unnecessary "joke" but I don't think he should lose his job over it. As was said in the political thread, intent and nuance is important.

He should apologize and deserves the criticism but losing his job is rather excessive in my opinion.

Post from the political thread

He went for the joke, swung and miss.

I don't know if he is or is not bigoted toward black folk... I don't know that man's heart...

But given his track record, I don't think he should lose his job or anything.

He went for the joke and caught the L.He shouldn't have said it, but nuance and intent matters.

*no, just b/c a white person doesn't say it in a malicious way doesn't mean they get to say it all willy nilly*

*no, just b/c a white person doesn't say it in a malicious way doesn't mean they get to say it all willy nilly*

*no, just b/c a white person doesn't say it in a malicious way doesn't mean they get to say it all willy nilly*

Shout out to all the outraged white people who use the N word when they're mad at a black person, though.

He ****** Karrine Stephens all those years, so he figures he has a pass. Nooooooooooooope.

Joke was corny but he's a comedian and I hate when dudes get outraged over this type of ****

Patrice O'Neal said it best

I get dealing with a difficult situation with humor.. and it speaks to the ability of some comedians and other people who can maneuver those waters

Dude went for the easy joke.. could have very easily said "I stick to the house work" and everyone and their ma would have got what he was going for

He is a moron and the jokes was tasteless.

I don't think he should lose his show over it. That's a bit much

Knowing who Sasse is and given his choice of words, a slavery joke was primed up for him to make dude feel uncomfortable.

But Bill is not a very clever fast thinking dude, so he went for low hang fruit and made an *** of himself. He should have just let it go.

The joke is tasteless.. but the fact dude took it as far as he did is why he gotta get up out the paint

Many ways that joke could have been made without having to resort to the use of that word.. he made it easy

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Bill Maher apologized Saturday for using a racial slur to describe himself as a house slave during a live segment for his HBO talk show.

Maher’s comment during his discussion with Sen. Ben Sasse, R-Nebraska, was quickly and broadly criticized after it aired on the comedian’s “Real Time with Bill Maher” show Friday night.

HBO said the remark was “completely inexcusable and tasteless” and the segment would not be re-aired.

“Friday nights are always my worst night of sleep because I’m up reflecting on the things I should or shouldn’t have said on my live show,” Maher said in a statement Saturday. “Last night was a particularly long night as I regret the word I used in the banter of a live moment. The word was offensive and I regret saying it and am very sorry.”

During Maher’s discussion with Sasse, the senator joked that he would like to have Maher visit Nebraska and work in the fields. The comedian responded by using a slur in a joke that he was a house slave.

The comedian immediately waved off audience groans. “It’s a joke,” he said on the show.

Activists including the Rev. Al Sharpton quickly criticized Maher, and it remained a top-ranked topic on Twitter on Saturday.

“Just because Bill Maher is a liberal and our friend, you don’t give him a pass,” Sharpton said on his radio show Saturday. “It’s wrong and we’re calling him out on it. You cannot allow folk to act like there’s anything funny in that context about using that word.”

Sasse wrote on Twitter on Saturday morning that he wished he’d challenged Maher for his use of the slur immediately.

“I’m a 1st Amendment absolutist. Comedians get latitude to cross hard lines,” Sasse wrote in a series of posts. “But free speech comes with a responsibility to speak up when folks use that word. Me just cringing last night wasn’t good enough. Here’s what I wish I’d been quick enough to say in the moment: ‘Hold up, why would you think it’s OK to use that word?’”

Sad part is there's a lot of black people supporting this. I've seen tons of cringe worthy comments like this:

I'm not "outraged" by any means. But I'm giving him the side eye for the distasteful joke. Way out of line. I don't care how much you've stood up for black people (aka just being a decent human being :rolleyes ) you do not get a pass for the N word.
