JB has dropped quite a few things on that table including the 4s, 2s Devon, these 6s, and some 1s low. Maybe the infrared is just a reference shoe for the university Blue pair

You guessed it. Early cycle, development of retro samples commonly uses reference pairs of the same/similar materials. However, even samples can change (as in the Gatorade VIs now with the white soles) but hte reference pairs are often used as a starting point. Someone on here explained how Nike used their DS, OG Kentucky 1s as a reference pair for last year's retro.
