Nike aims to be nimbler by cutting shoe styles, 1,400 jobs

nike vs L.A. Gear in da early 90's had da exact same lifestyle vs performance demographic argument, performance is da smarter long term play.

They said customers will barely notice the decrease in styles given the breadth of options Nike offers

this is another misnomer, a nike "style" never truly goes away.

When we have True Blue IIIs with "Nike Air" on the back hitting the sales rack, then there's a problem.

I love those kind of problems

Nike played themselves by believing their own hype and releasing crap products at premium prices for years.

Have you looked at basketball lately? It is incredibly diverse both in styles and well functioning tech.

Again, top of the line boost/micro G/bounce/whatever brandblack uses as cushioning + premium materials doesn't cost you more than $160, compared to Nike Lebrons/KD/Kobe that are in the neighborhood of $200; furthermore, competitors' offerings perform just as well as Nike, which means that the premium prices are no longer justified.

You're wasting your breathe my man, Ninja is a Nike Stan and thinks they do no wrong.

I always wonder about the silhouette of nike shoes and Jordan's alike. How everyone bites there design of sneakers and just ballon the prices. Imagine patenting the design of the black/blue aj 1's and what millions of companies have done to copy it ala saint laurent.

Now I think some companies have done it better than nike in that respect but it's interesting if that has moved people away from nike. i hate to agree with ninjahood but the performance model of nike is there bread and butter and will always be there best tool in the shed.

Nike can't be chasing fashion trends all the time to stay hip. Trends change to much to waste energy and funds on those endeavours.
But they should slow down on all these styles. Seems like a waste also to push out what seems like 100 different styles of running sneakers every couple of months.

As much as I like Nike products I hope they continue on the downtrend. Their business practices are awful & they need humbling.

Most definitely. Im glad a bunch of people have shifted to Adidas. It has made it easier to buy almost anything we want with Nike, and not have to worry about not scoring. Also, right now, we can wait for that 190 price tag to be discounted now, as that price is starting to correct itself with better competition.

Yeah, the materials they are releasing most of these retros in is garbage. I saw the "Bo Jackson Trainer SC" at Jimmy Jazz yesterday, and its just a cheap piece of plastic that shouldnt have even been released. Most of Nikes retros should be released at payless for the types of materials they are using.

you're discounting da fact that "Nike" as a brand holds more brand value.

Nike's way of releasing stuff is hurting them. The fake sellout and restock isn't a good look. What kills them the most is their prices. $120-$150 for a hoody. $100 for sweats. Then the outlet price is damn near retail. I don't buy much Nike because of the prices now, it's crazy.

One thing I hate about Adidas coming back is that I see damn near on a daily basis cats wearing the three stripe pants with Nike shoes. **** gives me chest pains. These fools have no morals.

Yeah, their outlet stuff is pricey too.

As far as releases, it's not even worth the effort to try and buy anticipated sneakers.

Casual kicks are running the game. Vans and adidas are get rocked more than anything else right now.

Adidas is popular but its not even in the stratosphere of nike bidness wise

Yeah, but that's not the chart for sneaker enthusiast, who are the ones that ultimately shape trends. Remember that sneaker culture dictates what's in and the masses, while behind the times eventually follow suit. All of the current taste makers and trend setters aren't ******* with Nike like they once did. Adidas has made up a lot of ground in the last 2 years.

Only tiny boppers believe this nonsense man.

boost tech, vapormax, flyknit

Boost isnt really "innovative" to me. Its basicaly a reimagined foam cushioning. Its lunar cut into pebbles and put together. Thats what it feels like.
Same with vapormax....its a tweak on an already existing idea.

Not saying either is bad..i like em both.

Flyknit wen it first came out was definetely innovative. Socks had been done but to a lesser degree and not with that type of cloth woven technogy.

I think the adidas springblade...albeit a fail...was innovative.
Those new acg nikes that are like parachutes......others

But theres really been nothing BIG.

Imho

I think its at the point now where its like wat else can u really do? Like with phones....the next innovation for a phone to me is to make it bendable or something. Thats where i think were at with sneakers.
