Nike aims to be nimbler by cutting shoe styles, 1,400 jobs

But, but Adidas hasn't affected Nike at all....

Man you delusional, if you don't think ADIDAS being a contender for $200+ shoes sin't bothering Nike, you're wrong. Jordans are sitting because of ADIDAS.

Jordans are sitting because of prices, even all the nice runners/trainers kids go crazy for.. sitting

even Adidas stuff is starting to sit, don't believe me go in store and let me know what you see. even ultra boosts aren't selling as fast but ill blame that on the ugly *** upper. 1.0/2.0>>>>>>> anything else they release

shoes are expensive, I don't care what the cost of living is, how much gas costs, what the price of an egg is. Theres a reason shoe sales are starting to get really bad. kids love shoes, teens love shoes, adults LOVE shoes but its getting insane how much money you need to spend to buy shoes.

quality is going down and prices are going up..

Figured id post this in here

Nike could be close to a direct relationship selling product on Amazon
https://www.streetinsider.com/Analy...n+Amazon+(AMZN)+-+Goldman+Sachs/13031119.html

Saw that. ***** getting bad

Nike either way needs to slash prices

Like I said in another thread or might have been here, it's insane to walk into finishline and see a a discount tag on 75% of the shoves :x

You never saw that before
How is nike selling to amazon bad? Adidas has been doing it for some time. Most importantly look at the recent trends for teenagers (tons of studies and articles out there), amazon is the top site they go to for shopping. this is just part of their strategy, focusing it as a misstep means you're not seeing the holistic and strategic changes that are happening.

bad for FTL, Finishline, and all retailers. Sales are bad, its all about online and the ease of online shopping. amazon literally takes business away from all those sites

I see Jordans sitting not only because of price, but the retro wagon for these shoes seems to be coming to an end. Many on here predicted that they would ride that wave for as long as they can. Saturated the market with horrendous color ways and garbage quality. It was only a matter of time.

Yeah, but that's not the chart for sneaker enthusiast, who are the ones that ultimately shape trends. Remember that sneaker culture dictates what's in and the masses, while behind the times eventually follow suit. All of the current taste makers and trend setters aren't ******* with Nike like they once did. Adidas has made up a lot of ground in the last 2 years.
As someone who works in the shoe industry, sneakerheads are the vast minority of adidas and Nike's customer base. A customer will go into a store and pick up a Roshe or Free Run before any Ultraboost or Retro Jordan. The fact that Nike's best selling shoe ever is the Monarch speaks volumes. Nike makes up 50% of most stores' sales alone and there's a reason why whenever you go into a Foot Locker, 60% of their wall are Nikes. Nike is still king despite what the street says.

As a 32 year old, "old head," I purchase Nike products purely off of nostalgia. The small remnants of the Jordan legacy that remain from my childhood years when Jordans meant so much to me is what drives me to purchase their product. Every year the nostalgia factor wears off more and more as the volume of releases and reduction in product quality increase more and more. Nikes current product offering does nothing for me.

As an objective consumer, there are better options than Nike. We can observe that in consumer trends of the younger generation (i.e adidas boost, vans, all birds, etc.)

Jordans are sitting because they're releasing literally every week at $200 a pop, not cuz of adidas.

Just because you see more "sneakerheads" wearing NMDs, Ultraboosts, etc. than Jordans does not mean adidas is kicking Nike's *** and anybody who thinks that is delusional. Go look around and see what the average Joe is wearing. Chances are, there's a Swoosh and chances are, you see a lot more average Joes than sneakerheads. That's why the regular consumer >>>>> sneakerhead.

By the way, in terms of apparel, UA is king. Nobody is touching them right now.

They relied too much on Jordan's and limited drops the last few years. Prices are too high, look what happened to kds. Nearly doubled in price in 3 years. Their greed is catching up to them, but they won't go bankrupt like Apple did in the 90s.

yea but they sell out soon as they get discounted 30% which kinda says to me, regardless of how ugly some color ways might be. People aren't trying to pay $200 for a shoe anymore.

All you see in LA is mostly Adidas & Vans, you hardly see anyone wearing Nikes. Maybe some Huaraches here n there

I wasn't talking about the "average Joe" though and it's common knowledge that Nike is a lot more profitable than Adidas. I was specifically speaking about the newest wave of what's considered hot and it's not Nike. I used to work in the industry myself and am also aware how quickly the youth can shape an industry. A lot of Nike fan boys are quick to dismiss Adidas and refer to the amount of money the company takes in as a whole and completely miss the point. Adidas is what's in demand right now for the youth and individuals who dictate what the "average Joe" will eventually walk into a store and purchase. Your "average Joe" customer wears and buys what's perceived to be "in" and is ultimately a sheep themselves, just at a lot slower pace.

The people have spoken, you can't waste money on models nobody cares about and price gouge. When you had Brons, Kobes, and Jordans goin for over $200, you knew Nike hit their peak.

Jordan's are sitting because they are producing higher quantities.

once dope boys and folks from the hood stop wearing Jordan's, then Nike will have to worry.

until then JB still flourishing.

we'll find out more next Thursday when their earnings reports come out.

Dope bois will never stop wearing

A. Jordans

B. Nikes with straps

Never lol

I scaled my wardrobe back so 90% of the time I'm in sneakers it's vans, adidas or nike runners. I lowkey wear slides/sandals more than anything these days, after a long day I just wanna kick back and relax and that's my go to.

My hood mentality outside of street smarts and flippin 1 to make 2 died years ago.

nike is washed

relying on brand loyalty from old people like ninja who still collect foamposites and live in the hood.

you can tell the nike ****s too cause they usually say stuff like this...

like why do people care about this? mans sound like they work for nike

lets talk about products... and nike has nothing exciting
You can't say nike is washed when their sales, and market cap are untouched in the shoe industry. You are literally contradicting yourself.

Too many Jordans and other Nike Flagship models landing in outlets. Nike supply has finally surpassed the demand, and the days of being able to wank into shoe stores days, and sometimes weeks, after release dates and easily find your sizes are back. Enjoy this while you can. Nike will cut supply again in order to increase demand just like they did in the early 2000's.

Here's to hoping adidas & other brands step up and keep their foot on nikes neck.

What puzzles me is you'd think limiting supply hurts profit.
