Hip Hop really is dead

Pac's death prob sealed Hip Hop's death. I had hope with cats like Nas, Outkast, Scarface and the Ghetto Boys etc, but dudes that I consider hip hop legends are now in their 40s. Outside of a few cats like Kendrick, Jcoke(although Jcole is hit or miss), contemporary hip hop/ rap sucks. Migos remind me of a modern Yong Yang Twins, Future makes good gym music, but he can't carry the hip hop torch. Hip hop/Rap is dead in my opinion. I used to couldn't wait till rappers would release albums, but no more. I have a tidal drive Apple Music subscriptions and get instant access to new music but I'm highly disappointed in the quality of hip hop/rap music released. I think I'm done with hip hop/rap. I'm gonna explore other genres of music.

There has never been a time in my life where i listened to hip hop as little as i do now

Rap is dead as ****. It's trash. I rarely listen to new Rap. I mostly listen to R&B and old Rap.

Mainstream hip hop is dead. But I suppose that was the point all along.

"Let's take their culture and poison it....make it harder to find the jewels"

There's always that guy, you just gotta look harder ***** lol

Cuz its always true. If he said just mainstream ish is done then id agree more but as a whole genre? Nah

Dead genres are like disco, heavy metal, jazz etc. Hip hop as a whole aint even close to being as dead as them genres lol

you shouldn't be allowed to post anymore

Hiphop is in a great space.

We got our Spitters, we got a few back packers, West coast still got our local sound, Atlanta purged out all the trash they flooded the gates with. Bars are back, battle rap still has a following. Ny is getting back to its grass roots.

Of course 90s is untouchable

Part of Hiphop is evolving in to rock and roll. I can see how mosh pits and crowd diving is transforming the genre

I can see in a few years kids raised off xxx and uzi and young thuf may bring something totally new to the table. Look at what lil wayne and future did when they started singing off tune, it influenced a ton of rappers now

 yikes at the backlash from my post

Idk maybe we looking at this differently cuz i dont hear any new Jazz or Heavy Metal acts getting mentioned at all anymore. Im not doubting if the quality is there because theres quality in almost any genre if you look for it but as far as popularity nowadays they feel dead imo.

However if theres any great new albums from modern artists in those genres then im all ears. If someone gon prove me wrong I'd at least like to know why

All im trying to say in the end is how can the most popular genre currently be dead? Cuz some ppl views of how it should and sound have gone away? Even if it wasnt the most popular, its still successful & has plenty of good artists in it. New (except that XXL Freshmen 17 ****) & old

What people consider true hip hop isn't dead, it's just not as popular as other styles. There are several great lyricists out there with substance, but pleasurable and/or destructive behavior is what sells these days.

What kills me when people say this **** is that they don't support the artists, go to shows or even listen to the artists that rap in the traditional form.

Just lazy to look for the music they want and don't support **** to begin with.

Hip hop is in it's best shape after going through the late 2000s early half of this new decade.

just say you dont like trap beats

i agree that the current sound is played out but look at how different the culture was from 2007 to 2010...you just don't like the current popular sound because there's plenty of lyrical rappers post 2012

You believe this

Mainstream hip hop is promoting drug use, gangs and not being intelligent or articulate

Man, like half your list is 30 or near 30

And this is new?

Yes it is

Go back in the 80's, 90's or early 2000's

Did Mc Eiht or DJ Quik make you want to be in a gang? Were they in videos throwing up gang signs. The only ones who really did it were Snoop and WC. The rest were more like Schoolboy and Nipsey.

Wu talked about what they did. Did they talk about it every song? Did they promote it's usage? Did DMX promote his addiction?

Did Nas or Jay promote dropping out of school or not being intelligent?

Guess you never heard of the bangin on wax tapes or videos

I guess every rapper smoking weed isn't promoting drug use

You bring up promoting **** and Jay Z. The ***** who lost 92 bricks. The ***** who been rapping about cook for 20 years now. Never heard any rapper promote dropping out and being stupid.

Do you die from marijuana usage?

Have you heard You Must Love Me or Regrets?

Yes, I have, I liked Piru Love because it used Computer Love. I''m very well versed in hip hop.

But was that mainstream? No it wasn't. Stop reaching

Doesn't matter. It's a stimulant. You gonna pick and choose the promotion of alcohol as well?

Not reaching at all. It being mainstream doesn't matter. It simply wasn't mainstream because the ****** doing it wasn't popular enough for it to have been recognized. It's nothing new at all. The **** has been promoted for the longest.

All thats happening now is the same **** that's been happening before in new ways and forms.
