The good news is that all of the proceeds from a recent roast of David Ortiz went to Big Papi’s charity for children. But that’s where the good news ends. The bad news is that Rob Gronkowski and others made such horribly racist, sexist, and anti-Semitic jokes that NESN was forced to cancel its broadcast of the show, according to the Boston Globe.

Gronkowski’s contributions to the roast were painfully cruel, based on video obtained by Boston.com. He directed a racist taunt at actor Anthony Mackie, who plays Falcon in Marvel’s Captain America and Avengers films.

He didn’t stop there. That was followed by an anti-Semitic comment and sexist jokes about promiscuity and incest directed at comedian Sarah Tiana.

Rob Gronkowski and others ruined roast of David Ortiz with racist jokes

Gronk's material was awful, but this was a roast. All the ones I've seen have definitely crossed the line, but that's to be expected. I'm sure an apology will follow...

These roasts are never funny to me. It always feels like these people use them as opportunities to be openly racist/discriminatory without any consequences, and when you call them out on it, it turns into "comedy is too politically correct these days"

Edit: See post right below mine. Not surprised at all at who posted it

Dis. Cats be tripping on there.

It isn't really a fine line between"just jokes" and trying to be offensive for shock value.

pc killed comedy.

none of da classic Eddie Murphy Chris Rock Richard Pryor would be hospitable in this era...

Bugging.

Put on recent Louis CK, recent Chappelle, all of Anthony Jessilnik, Daniel Tosh, Corey Holcomb, and Bill Burr.

Chris Rock Stopped Playing Colleges Because They’re ‘Too Conservative’
By Tyler Kingkade

Comedian and actor Chris Rock told New York magazine he stopped playing colleges because they’ve gotten “way too conservative.”

Writer Frank Rich asked Rock about some of his recent, controversial jokes about the Boston Marathon, 9/11 and the World Trade Center, and whether the backlash could hurt his career. Diving deeper, Rich asked Rock about his thoughts on students’ attempt to block Bill Maher from speaking on campus due to his comments on HBO about Muslims. That’s when Rock said college campuses in America were too conservative, though, not necessarily in a political way:

Not in their political views — not like they’re voting Republican — but in their social views and their willingness not to offend anybody. Kids raised on a culture of “We’re not going to keep score in the game because we don’t want anybody to lose.” Or just ignoring race to a fault. You can’t say “the black kid over there.” No, it’s “the guy with the red shoes.” You can’t even be offensive on your way to being inoffensive.
Rich asked when Rock started to notice that.

“Probably a couple of tours ago,” Rock responded. “It was just like, This is not as much fun as it used to be. I remember talking to George Carlin before he died and him saying the exact same thing.”

College students at various campuses protested to remove several commencement speakers in the spring of 2014. Civil liberty advocates, progressives, and staffers at HuffPost criticized students for being misguided in their activism against the would-be guest speakers.

pssh, George Carlin on a off night, hell vintage Def Comedy jam craps on this era.

its like comparing WWF attitude era to WWE in 2017

If you can't make jokes without making fun of someone's race then it wasn't funny to begin with

preposterous, a good written race joke on any race will never not be funny.

da hack/work around that contemporary comedians do it is only member of da respective group can actually say da joke (meanwhile they got army of faceless writers of any race actually writing da punchlines.)

agree to disagree.

I watch a LOT of stand-up so I'm not speaking out of school here.

The difference between then and now is the audience is much sharper / smarter than just 25 years ago.

The complexity of jokes between then and now is like comparing the complexity of NBA defenses between the 90s and today.

No contest.

Ehhh I don't think there are limits to comedy. If you're offended by anything in comedy you shouldn't be watching.

How about the uproar over John McEnroe saying Serena Williams isn't the best tennis player in the world?

He was asked, spoke the truth, now he's suddenly the bad guy again. SMH.

Gronk crossed the line big time. He's an enormous meathead though, so it shouldn't even come as a surprise.

Based on those "jokes," the whole roast sounded like a massive failure. Like cringeworthy.

It's all fun and games until white people get lit up. I could roast the hell out of a racist and make them wanna fight. I'm not sensitive about being black or the bs that comes with it. The racist whites, on the other hand, pretty much all have the same insecurities.

the dude made a joke about black ppl running from/getting killed by police :smh:

I mean, roast jokes are low hanging fruit and meant to offend to some degree. I think it was the bieber roast where Jeff Ross went below the belt like none other when going at Pete Davidson's deceased father. He also went at Shaq as well. Everyone on the panel took it in stride as going in you pretty much know what to expect in that particular setting.

NESN ain't a comedy station though, why would they think that's a good idea?

And comedy is dying? could've fooled me.

The police thing isn't something to joke about IMO. There's literally police killing innocent people. I can't find the humor in it. Nothing clever about what he said to boot.

And that was in front of the president
