race jokes are hilarious
Wait, racist jokes in comedy are unheard of / unfunny now?
No. Well this one was unfunny.
It just seems to be in poor taste to be poking fun at race relations with police in an era where police are killing people on an almost daily basis and we're literally seeing live feeds of it.
Like I wouldn't find a joke about Syrian casualties "funny."
It's serious sh*t. Life and death sh*t.
Put yourself in their shoes.
Godfrey wasn't a huge ******* ******* to a person who may have been a rape victim or knew a person with that trauma.Watch this and tell me Godfrey wasn't a huge ******* ******* to a person who may have been a rape victim or knew a person with that trauma.
I miss Patrice man
I 100% agree. If you go to any stand up show you should know the comedian and their style of material before deciding to go. Basic research.
For example if you don’t like cussing / offensive words for a woman’s private parts and a gay man, don’t watch Louis CK.

The issue here, though, was that NESN clearly was out of their depth and had no clue what they were doing.
Y’all keep comflating this as an example of the public being too sensitive, but the network is who pulled the show.
And I don’t think anyone said racist joke aren’t funny. The point is the person and their talent level is much more of a factor than the substance of the joke.
I’m of the belief that you could make fun of pretty much everything, if you’re good at being funny.
Unfunny people telling racist jokes just come off as racist most times when you remove the humor.
Exactly. It's a slippery slope.Originally Posted by Hand2HandKing

Very much. You get into that weird territory where it's like okay should people be saying this?
Then do you have to apply what people are offended by to musical expression to deem it okay or not? Art? Movies and TV? Books? It's a very weird place to operate in.
So where should the line be drawn (if any) with roasts?
Let's say Gronk killed it w/ good material...like Jeff Ross type of quality...would folks be looking at this situation a little differently?

I see where you're coming from in the sense that the jokes weren't funny. To that extent I agree. It's in poor taste if it's not funny and becomes blatantly insulting.
But what I don't agree with is the limits put on comedy. It's comedy. You should be able to say anything to any audience. Some people might get offended, well tough luck if it hits you in the feels. They can't adjust their act for a niche group of people who find it offensive. Just leave or don't watch them. But to protest, heckle or want to take that bit out of the act is ridiculous, especially if it explodes the room with laiughter. IMO, It's not in poor taste to poke fun at the hardships some people go through in life because the whole point is to lighten it up. And as an audience seeing a COMEDY show, they should lighten up as well.
Yes it's serious life/death ****, but it's happening. Does it happen less if it becomes part of a comedy special? Do more people die? Of course not. This goes across the board with rape, abortion, race, sex or religious jokes. You shouldn't have to put yourself in their shoes and think about it at a comedy show. It's a show that's supposed to be funny. As an audience member, if you can't set your **** aside for an hour, just leave.
Heres the jokes if u wanna read em.

i rest my case...that Jew joke is 3rd grade old lol
face it fellas, we're in a victorian/Puritan era with comedy...
I've never watched a Tarantino film and felt like him using a racial slur improved the quality of any scene. Just seems like a weird fetish dude has.Great question...
spizike231 brought up a good point about Tarantino and his usage of racial slurs in his movies....

I think basically if you are going to step into that territory better make sure your **** is tight or just leave it, word to Kramer.
Didn't Kramer spaz out on someone in the audience? Can't remember exactly the context, but I don't think what he did was part of his standup routine...
