There Will Never EVER be anyone like Allen Iverson.

but I don't think you could ever build a championship team around him

he single handily got his team to the finals years back, lost to lakers who were unstoppable that year

Lets totally ignore the fact he had the Defensive Player of the Year, 6th Man of the Year, and the Coach of the Year. Yall give this dude way too muchcredit

its just nice to see one of the last great tough superstars in the league, unlike these terry cloth stars like lebron and d-whistle

He's amazing....There will NEVER be another Allen Iverson in the NBA. Like LeBron, he's a once-in-a-lifetime type of player. Think about this....howmany 6'0" combo guards have been drafted #1 overall...not just a first round pick, but #1 overall? Look at all the clones on the collegiatelevel....Keydren Clark, Luis Flores, Marcus Hatten, SirValiant Brown, etc etc...all have patterned their games after A.I., but each of them have had little, tono success in the NBA.

Pound for pound, the toughest dude in the NBA. He MAYBE weighs 165 on a good day, but for the amount of punishment he takes on a nightly basis, it's flatout incredible that he has lasted this long and has produced at about the same rate. AI may have lost a step, but he is still in the top 10-15 fastest dudes inthe NBA.

I've been following this guy since Doug Wilder got him out of jail. It was great growing up around DC, and watching this guy hoop at G'Town. Dude wasthe king of this city. Anyone remember his epic birthday parties when F Street would be shut down?

AI's birthday bashes in DC (back when he was ballinfor Philly) were the equivalent to the party scene at the All-Star weekend.

Anyways, he's one of the best to ever play in the NBA, and let's appreciate this man as his time is winding down professionally.

I agree 100% with the OP on this topic....

Yes, his shot selection has gotten WAY better, but that's not his role for this team.

Yes it is. GK made it clear to A.I. when he arrived last year that he didn't want A.I. to change his game. He wants A.I. to only focus onscoring which is why they had Anthony Carter running the point the whole season.

Lets totally ignore the fact he had the Defensive Player of the Year, 6th Man of the Year, and the Coach of the Year. Yall give this dude way too much credit
Offensively, A.I. did lead his team to the 2001 finals.

I respect Iverson. Always have been a huge fan. You can tell he wants it bad in this series with the Lakers, too. When the Lakers were up by 10, the entireNuggests roster seemed like they lost hope, but Iverson still played hard. You can tell he is getting frustrated with his getting techs in the 4th for stickingup for his teammates and criticizing the refs for all the calls going to the Lakers.

One more thing, isn't Iverson's playoff ppg average over 30?!?! Now THAT there is impressive.

AI is one of my favorites and always has been, but I have some mixed feelings about him...mostly around winning.

smh.gif
so he's the toughest because he's little?
he's also the most fearless because he's little?
oh and he's the most skilled because he's little too?

smh.gif
i guess pound for pund he must be the greatest, right?

So THATS enough to win a championship? Mutombo isn't a scorer AND he was guarding SHAQ in his prime. I don't care HOW good a defender you are, whenyou give up as much weight as Mutombo did to Shaq (In his PRIME), your not going to be able to do much. And he wasn't. Go back and watch the tapes. Second, who cares if they have the 6th man? How does that help them win the title? The 6th man was McKie who isn't exactly Manu Ginobli. And a good coach is a goodcoach but you can only do SO much with an over-matched, under-talented squad. They had heart, just not the talent outside of Allen Iverson to win it. So Ithink Iverson should get even more credit than he does for taking his team to the Finals...

forget that noise.

dude DRAGGED that team to the finals. sometimes kicking and screaming.

iverson gets smaller with every thread i see about him he's gonna be 5'1" sooner or later.

he might be a shade under his listed height but unless any of you have stood beside the guy WITH a measuring tape and a wall then just go with the listed.

ballhog, unappreciated and a horrible passer
anyone see the allstar game, it was the nuggets playing.

Beat me to it.

@ not getting respect

There already was an Allen Iverson, his name was Tiny Archibald.

Seriously, as much as I like A.I., I have the feeling we'll see "another" Iverson before we see another Barkley.

Lets hope there won't be another Allen Iverson. And this shouldn't be taken as a compliment to Iverson.

The path to a ring is paved with selflessness, not selfishness.

AI got my respect but when you rank him in All-time he can't be what Mark Jackson said, P4P the greatest.

Basketball is about all aspects of the game and that includes leadership, defense, and making your teammates better. Honestly there is nothing he can do withthis Denver team except JR. Smith and Kleiza. Those two are the only ones who seem to respond to AI's effort.

Problem is this, when you aren't vocal except to the refs and not with your team how can you be considered a leader? You are the PG/SG and that means heneeds to get into those guys especially overrated Carmelo.

Melo is only worried about buckets and he don't even try on D or playmaking. I feel bad for AI but if he wants change he's going to have to be a truePG while scoring and coach on the floor. GK isn't doing crap, but worrying about his son getting some clock at the end of the game.

Notice he probably didn't care they were getting smashed when Coby Karl got in to play.

Marc Jackson's "pound for pound" argument doesn't apply to the NBA. It works for Boxing and UFC where competitors are limited to competingwithin their weight class. In the NBA, it doesn't matter what your weight is. Everyone competes against everyone.

I think Jackson was just trying to make an argument based on height to production ratios which would apply to Iverson. But anytime you are saying Iverson is ormight be the greatest you have to start and stop at SCORING. This is what he's great at doing.
