There Will Never EVER be anyone like Allen Iverson.

Its just too bad for Iverson he got stuck with one of the worst gms in the history of sports in Billy King...

Iverson can't win it by himself...like the saying goes...you can't make chicken salad out of chicken $%#&...and iverson has been playing with chicken "crap" most of his career..

Pippen is another player that sacrificed some of his strengths because the team needed him to excel in other areas. Iverson just doesn't do this in his career. He's had talented players around him, but he just never got over the hump to learn that the best players in history make the 4 other guys out there WANT to play beyond their abilties.

Look at Iverson with Denver. The result are nearly identical to what he was doing in Philly after Larry Brown. Get his, gamble for steals, argue with his coach, argue with his teammates, but basically overall demonstrate qualities of selfishness. JR Smith has picked up on it. Look at all the ridiculous shots he takes when everyone knows how strong his penetration game to the rim is.

It's too bad for Melo now. If he had been drafted by Detroit he would have learned early on exactly what the Pistons do for each other to make them ECF contenders every single season.

Iverson is a great scorer and that's it.

What are you talking about? Where this year or last year has Iverson argued with GKor with his teammates. That $+%$ would of been all over ESPN. How you gonna blame Iverson for the reason why JR Smith took bad shots? That was JR's gameBEFORE A.I. got there. Hell, if you have watched every single Nuggets game this season, you would have noticed that as the season has went on JR's shotselection has actually got better.

Im not even that big of a fan of his he just needs more respect. All his shots are fade away's as well due to him being so small. I think he is the most SKILLED player in the league. To me he is top 25 player of all time.

I don't think you understand how fast he is compared to NBA players. You're complaining about him being at aphysical disadvantage to other players because of his height, but his speed gives him a physical advantage over other players. It evens out. Iverson didn'tnecessarily overcome a disadvantage by "practicing and practicing" to develop skills, he just plays to his strengths by getting the most out of hisGod-given advantage. But yeah, he does have a lot of heart when he's out on the court.
How are you gonna call a career 31% 3-point shooter themost SKILLED player in the league?

Yea i wouldnt say Iverson is the most skilled player...He's way too athletic...to me someone like steve nash is the most skilled player in theleague...he's one of the best shooters...one of the best passers...best handles....and he's not that gifted physcially accept for maybe hisstamina....Iverson does have arguably the best handles in the league tho....they're may be some players that have handles just as good but nobody better

I don't think he meant as a whole, just individually, and he pretty much did. Dude crossed everyone on the team, lol. Was shooting jumpers in everyonesface. He even went directly AT Shaq at a time when nobody else was. Iverson was killin...His team on the other hand...

All hate for Brandon?

There has been numerous people comparing his game to AI is why I brought it up.

Well, they're just dumb then. I like his game...but he's not that special.

I've heard Kenny Anderson, and that one is laughable as well.

Hey Ska... I haven't read this thread but I'd like to add to your list that A.I. is statistically the best player since MJ. He leads the '96 draftclass (which is probably the best draft class of all time.) in PPG and assist and probably steals too, right? How much more can one man accomplish w/o a ring?

A.I. = the best small 2 guard ever IMO.

AI is that DUDE
pimp.gif
. Hasn't he played at least 40 minutes every year instead of 1 year? And I think he averaged like 39 something that year
laugh.gif
. That ispretty amazing IMO, especially with the beating he takes when he takes it to the hoop. He's my favorite active player and my 2nd favorite player to MJ AllTime.

BallinBoykz:
Other three?

Shaq, Duncan, Oscar Robertson

MJ wasn't the #1 pick (Definitely not his fault, because it was a big man's league at the time. But still, he wasn't picked #1.)
Magic wasn't the Rookie of the Year (Bird was).
Bird wasn't the #1 pick (he was #6 in the 1978 draft).

There are some other player that you would think would have all 4, but they don't have All Star Game MVPs, because they didn't do an ASG MVP when theyplayed.

I know that sounds unfair, but to me, it basically eliminated the guys that people always say played back when the talent was weak.

Interesting thing (that ticks me off
laugh.gif
) about Magic/Bird:
- Bird was drafted #6 in 1978, but because he didn't sign an agent, he was able to return back to Indiana State for his senior year, which he did, andBoston let him.
- Magic was drafted #1 in 1979.
- So the 1979-1980 season was the first season for Magic and the first season for Bird, even though Bird had actually been drafted the year before Magic wasdrafted.
- Bird was the Rookie of the Year.

Bastard should have been the ROTY theyear before, but NOOOOOO 'I want to go back to COLLEGE and played in the NBA NEXT year, and screw Magic out of opportunity to get ROTY.'

and on to the topic

A.I is just another in a long line of superstars who more then likely won't when a ring during their career. He might just be the best of all of theBrides Maids, I just hope that at the end of his career he doesn't start jumping from team to team just to win a title. And this is coming from a huge A.Ifan, but he is too old and too good to change his game up. But he is a waaaay better passer then people give him credit for.

I wrote most of these thoughts the other day then accidentally closed the page, so pardon me if this response is kind of scatterbrained:

AI used to be a love him or hate him type of player, now he is more of a shade of gray. There some people (like myself at times) who question his efficiencywhile others call him the best thing since condoms. The way I see it, it's no dumber to call him a bum than it is to say he is on the level of Kobe (whichhas been said, and is being disproved in their current playoff match up). I'm sure the same people who will bring up his age will be the same people whowill say he hasn't lost a step. Fact is before joining the Nuggets, AI was just slightly above .500, which says a lot to me when judging a superstar in thesport of basketball. I don't give bonus points for size or lack there of. If he wants credit for being small he should join the dunk contest. He wascredited as rookie of the year and MVP of the league so he has gotten his respect from the media and from the fans. It's just that now people realize thathe will likely end his career without a ring. The ONLY way will possibly get a ring is if Larry Brown comes to coach the Nuggets next year. AI has a style thathas to be harnessed in order to be an efficient part of a team game plan. Of course AI can get his numbers in his teams current style of play (pickup), butthere has been no consistency on this team he "leads." I respect AI for doing what he does. It's entertaining to watch but that doesn't meanthat it's efficient. There is a reason he was "shunned" from USA Basketball. In all probability, AI will be regularly included in "bestplayer without a championship" discussions.

pound for pound the best player

AI is my favorite player, seeing him running through teams, dropping 40 50 like its nothing

It's a cool fact I guess, but being picked #1 doesn't really mean anything when judging how great a player is. Neither does All-Star MVP, but youalready mentioned that.

Anyway, AI is a great player, but has always been given his fair share of respect and awards. He has some flaws in his game that have made it difficult tobuild a championship team around him. Nothing else can really be said about that.

As far as the whole "never be anyone like him" argument, it seems very common for the current players to be viewed as "one of a kind".But when you look back at history, there have been plenty of people that fit the mold for lots of players we may consider one of a kind.

Tiny Archibald has been mentioned with AI. So who is to say there won't be another?
Before Lebron there was Oscar Robertson and Magic Johnson...

Before Kobe there was Mike...

The point isn't that the examples given are EXACT matches, so please don't start acting like I'm saying they are just as good as the OG players. But in 30 years, there will have been another AI, and another Lebron, and another Kobe. Just because we see them everyday we assume they are the best ever, but30 years ago, they were saying the same stuff about the stars back then. 30 years from now they will be saying the same stuff about the next crop of stars.

The moral of the story...the thread starters claim is not true. Sorry to burst the bubble, but there will always be someone like/better than anyone we know.

toughest mother @$%!$% ever to come into this league.

I mean amongst some of the st as such as the fact that he is a less than 6 foot 2 guard that will destroy you and drop over 30 a night, something that we willnever see again...

Really the stat that amazes me most about this man is that his game is all about physicality and he is so little, but still even at 32 son never misses a gameand he continues to lead the league in minutes which i am pretty sure he has led the league in or been in the top 5 in this entire decade (except maybe thatyear he was traded and sat out)

I am so happy that i got to see this man in his prime and i will always remember ma boi AI
