mixtapes are only dead in the traditional sense... they need to be soundin more like albums i think is what he meant... word to the mood muzik series... atleast rap about SOMETHING!!! (ehem wayne)
 
I think DJ mixtapes have run their course... artist's mixtapes (WGI4C, MM, etc...) are still dope.
