It's not at all surprising that ignorant attitudes exist towards atheism. People today still think that atheists are people that lack morality and reject the idea of god so that they can freely sin without punishment.

thats because alot of believers use their belief as a reason to only associate with other believers and the tolerance they're supposed to derive from the morals prescribed from their set of beliefs often become an excuse for bigotry and ignorance. theres a good amount of believers who use a system of belief such as theirs in the manner it is proposed. aka to make themselves and the people around them better and happier people.
